By Carmel Sweeney
ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH - Did you see
that nice big limo going
around town last Sat., Dec.
15? It was for the wed-

reception at the arena in

Jen and Trevor are living
in the former home of

Queensway Nursing Home
in Hensall). The bride
Jennifer is the daughter of
Ken and Sylvia Mittelholtz
of Zurich.
Josephine Denomme is
now a resident at the
Queensway Nursing Home

she would like her friends

May we offer our sincere
sympathy to the family

Unique Christmas light -up in Hensall
By Liz Sangster
HENSALL CORRESPONDENT
HENSALL - Church services last Sunday were can-
celled at Hensall United Church and Carmel
Presbyterian Church due to inclement weather.
The movie night held on Dec. 14 at Carmel
Presbyterian Church was enjoyed by all.
On Christmas Eve there will be a pageant of musical
entertainment at Carmel Presbyterian Church, begin-
ning at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Christmas wreath Tight up
The annual Christmas tree lighting in Hensall took on
a different flavor this year. Instead of a Christmas tree,
we lit a large wreath with 300 mini -lights on it. This
activity was arranged by the volunteer firemen in
Hensall, and the Hensall Community Action
Development Committee.
It was very well attended with the largest crowd in
three years. Songs were sung and a good time was had
by all. The crowd enjoyed hot dogs (donated by local
businesses).
Santa came to visit and we are always pleased to
make his acquaintance every year. Our thanks go to the
folks who took time on a very cold and windy night to
make this tree -lighting the best one yet.
On Dec. 11 the Hensall Fire Department held a very
successful food drive in the village, collecting non-per-
ishable food items for the Food Bank.
The Hensall shuffleboard scores for Dec. 12 are as fol-
lows: (4 games) Joyce Pepper 405, Charlotte Norton 299.
(3 games) Joe
Stephens 432,
Dave Woodward
416, Lorraine
Alexander 341,
Cecil Pepper 316,
Harry Pennings
311, Donna
Smale 242.
POLICE BRIEF
Open liquor found in
vehicle with grandkids
BLUEWATER — On Dec. 8 Huron OPP officers
were conducting a RIDE check in Hensall when a
50 -year-old South Huron woman was stopped
with open liquor in her vehicle. The woman was
operating the vehicle with her son and two grand-
children. A roadside Alcotest demand was made
and she failed. She was arrested and brought to
the Exeter Detachment where she provided two
samples of her breath. Both tests confirmed that
she was over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of
alcohol. She will appear in Exeter Court Jan. 24
to answer to one Criminal Code charge of driving
with over 80 Milligrams.
P Capsule Comments
by Ernie Miatello
Depression affects up to 15 - 20 per cent of adolescents.
Signs of depression can include irritability, loss of interest
in activities, low self-esteem, low energy levels, impaired
concentration, sad moods and sometimes suicidal
thoughts and behaviours. If you are concerned that your
child is experiencing depression, seek medical help right away.
During this holiday time of year, try to get out and walk more to offset all the
extra calories taken in by eating all those holiday goodies. A brisk half-hour
walk can burn 200 calories. The British Nutrition Foundation estimated that on
average, we consume up to 6,000 calories during Christmas Day of which the
main dinner accounted for as much as 1400 calories. Better make it a one-
hour walk.
Alcohol consumption also adds to our calorie intake. Restrict alcohol to a
maximum of one drink per hour and eating while imbibing. Food slows down
the absorption of the alcohol. Try drinking one glass of water between each
drink of alcohol and dont "free pour" your drinks. Measure your alcoholic
drinks.
We don't want to sound too grim, but University of California at San Diego
researchers found that people are more likely to die of a heart attack on
Christmas or New Year's Day than any other day of the year. This is due to
overindulging, shovelling snow, or just being too busy with socializing to seek
medical attention.
