Junior girls team excels ARVA - The SHDHS junior girls volleyball team trav- elled to Medway for a tournament on the weekend. The squad lost in the `B' final game after some hard fought battles against London's John Paul II Catholic School. The girls compet- ed against London Christian, Medway and St. Thomas Aquinas and nar- rowly missed the 'A' playoffs. The team should be very proud for its outstanding play throughout the whole tourney. The players had only been introduced to the 6-2 system a week prior to the tourney but they captured the con- cept amazingly. Returnees Alyssa Becker, Nicole Insley and Teri Stuckless were outstanding throughout the whole tourney with talented sets, pass- es, blocks and spikes. The three captains were a real force and led their team with sports- manship and great leadership. Newcomers Gina Phouttharath and Alyssa Sweitzer excelled at their passing ability and Sweitzer should be commended for her all-round play throughout the whole tourney. Taelor Douglas shone in the setting position and scored 22 points with her serving prowess. Linette Melick and Josie McCann, both middles, also excelled in the serv- ing position. Shaylyn Dwyer was a powerhouse at the net with key blocks while Jessica Brock and Jaemi Douglas helped score some key points throughout the day. Great job girls. Your coaches are very proud of your hard work! The juniors have their first league games this Thursday at Stratford Central and travel to Ingersoll for a tour- ney on Saturday.
