(photos/Pat Bolen) Hawks edged 3-2 by North Middlesex EXETER — Three short- handed goals given up by the Exeter Hawks were the difference on Sunday as the Hawks dropped a 6-0 decision to the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs in Zurich. The loss followed a 3-2 loss for the Hawks at the hands of the North Middlesex Stars Friday and leaves the Hawks with a 7-14-1 record for 15 points. The Bulldogs continue to leave the league overall with 42 points and a 21-1- 0 record. Thamesford holds down second the Yeck confer- ence with 27 points. Friday night against the Stars, Justin Young got the Hawks on the board early with a power play goal at 2:15 of the first period. The Stars struck back in the second with a pair of goals for a 2-1 lead going in to the third and made it 3-1 just over a minute into the period with what proved to be the winning goal. Dave Geoffrey got the Hawks close with six min- utes left in the game but it was all they could get in the 3-2 North Middlesex win. It was all Mt. Brydges Sunday in Zurich as the Bulldogs scored two in the first period, three in the second and one more in the third for the 6-0 win. The Bulldogs outshot the Hawks 45-26 and went two for five with the man advantage while killing off all eight chances for Exeter. The Hawks are in Mitchell Friday night at 8:30 p.m. before hosting the Thamesford Trojans Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. Tavistock edges Lucan Ilderton 6-4 By Nina Van Lieshout TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF LUCAN — "It was an unsuccessful weekend," says Lucan Merton Jets general manager Rob Andrews, speaking of the 6-4 loss to Tavistock Saturday night in Lucan. After the first Tavistock was up 2- 1, with Alex Butkus scoring the lone goal. In the second the Jets Jason Wilson scored again, for a 5-2 Tavistock lead. "In the second period it went bad," says Andrews, explaining that an inconsistency of calls by the referee as a fac- tor, "Many of the guys were in and out of the penalty box and Tavistock took advantage of it," adding, "a cou- ple of guys were also thrown out of the game." The final score was 6-4, with Brad Yeo and Kyle Smith scoring goals. Andrews says although the win was disappointing, "you have to pick up and move on," adding he's hoping the Jets will be one of the top four teams by Christmas and, "It looks like we'll be there."
