Midgets winWingham Silverstick EXETER - The South Huron Sabres Midget Rep team has had a great start to the season with a record of eight wins, one loss and one tie in league play. The team had two tournaments during November, with injuries and suspensions making their line up short. The addition of two affiliate players and the rest of the team they were to show their depth in tackling the Bill Batten and Regional Silverstick tournaments. The Midgets were victorious in the Bill Batten tournament with three straight wins over Mitchell, Ilderton and Harrow. This was to prove a warm up for Silverstick. At the regional Silverstick in Wingham, South Huron won three in round robin play defeat- ing Mitchell, Mount Forest and Goderich. The semifinal brought Walkerton against South Huron, whom the Sabres defeated, then it was on to the finals to meet up against a strong BCH(Bayfield, Clinton, Hensall) team. The championship game was one for the books. BCH started out on fire and took advantage of a slow starting Sabres team. By the 13:29 mark of second period South Huron was down 4- 0. Sabres Jared Green and Kurtis VanOsch scored before the sec- ond ended making it 4-2 for BCH. Early in the third period saw the BCH team go ahead 5-2. At the 9:46 mark of the third period BCH took two penalties, which allowed the Sabres power play to strike with Kyle Schmidt and Steve Morgan scoring. With the score 5-4 for BCH, Kurtis VanOsch with 13 seconds left managed to sneak the puck by BCH goalie, to make it a 5-5 tie. The overtime play saw Sabres goalie Kyle Masse make two spectacular saves to preserve their chances. The Sabres struck at 2:55 left in overtime with Justin Reid explod- ing a shot from the slot into the twine, giving the Sabres the win and also a berth into the International Silverstick Tournament in Sarnia Jan. 18- 20. Congratulations go out to all the players and coaching staff who have shown that team depth and chemistry is what creates a champion. eXCE, rinn este c $o. 1992 The Exeter & District Ringette Assoc. would like to thank you for your help in making our Ron Ferguson Memorial Tournament a great success.
