cooking with memories

HOLIDAY FRUIT COOKIES
FOR THAT COOKIE EXCHANGE HERE IS A NEW IDEA. LOTS
OF PEOPLE BRING PEANUT BUTTER, OR SHORTBREAD, OR
GINGER SNAPS BUT WHAT ABOUT A FRUITY COOKIE. THIS IS
A GREAT RECIPE'OF COURSE HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG
WITH CANDIED CHERRIES, PECANS, BUTTER AND SUGAR?!
THESE FREEZE WELL AND TASTE GREAT.
1 cup butter softened
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
l egg
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cup flour
3/4 cup toasted pecans chopped
1/2 cup candied cherries chopped fine
Beat the butter for 30 seconds. Add in sugar and salt. Beat in
egg and vanilla and then mix in the rest of the ingredients.
When well mixed put on ungreased cookie sheets and bake at
375 for 8-10 minutes ,'til lightly browned. Enjoy!
North Street UC hosts
seasonal music concert

VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA - The last Sunday before Advent worship was
in Goshen with Gloria Wilbee as the lay worship leader.
Gloria shared her many talents with the children as well
as the adults. She read a beautiful book "While Angels
Watch" as well she played guitar and sang Sang Angels
Among Us.
Gloria reflected on "Are We There Yet" and also
shared another gift with the congregation once again
playing the guitar and singing.
Carolyn Thompson read a scripture reading.
The loose collection from Sunday's service will be for-
warded to Mr. McNeilly to be used for the Nicaragua
Project.
There will be a board meeting Wed., Nov. 28 at 8 p.m.
at Goshen Church.
Guest Speaker in Varna on Sun., Dec. 2 will be Len
Kraemer speaking on the Food Grains. If you are mak-
ing a personal monetary donation to the Food Grains
please make cheques payable to VGS Foodgrains
Growing project.
Bruce Whitmore will be the worship leader on Dec. 9
in Varna and Dec. 16 in Goshen
Gift of Music concert raises money for C.T.
scanner
Varna UCW and others in the community enjoyed
Saturday evening in Goderich at North Street United
Church at the Gift of Music Concert featuring Mary Smith
and many other musical interludes. All proceeds went
towards the C.T. Scanner
Goshen U.C.W. meet Dec. 13 at the
Goshen Church.
"A Christmas Wassail" will be held
Sun., Dec. 2, 7 at the North Street
United Church in Goderich. This is a
great introduction to your festive
preparations. Blyth Festival Singers
and Blyth Festival Orchestra will be
in concert performing inspiring sea-
sonal music. Tickets are available
from Willi Laurie, Dutch store in
Clinton, Tasty New Bakery in Zurich
and the Village bookshop in Bayfield.

POLICE BRIEF
Motorcycle
stolen in Exeter
EXETER — Sometime during the
night of Nov. 17-18, suspects
entered a Huron Street residential
garage and stole a black motorcycle.
The motorcycle details are: Make:
Harley Davidson, Model: 2006
Fatboy, VIN#:
5HD1BXB1X6Y030606 and Ontario
Marker#: 497S1. The vehicle is
described as having a loud exhaust
system. It is valued at $30,000.
Secret sisters on Dec. 5
EXETER - The order is now in for the cheese we have
sold. On Dec. 5 we will have the Christmas gift
exchange for the secret sisters. Reminder to all
Rebekahs of the Oddfellows Christmas dinner which we
are invited to. The date is Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the
lodge hall. The Past Grand's Christmas party is at the
Huron Restaurant and then to Sis. Helen Coates. Call
Sis. Joyce Morgan if you are able to come. Birthday
cake and ice cream was enjoyed by everyone in honour
of Sis. Almira Ford's 90th birthday.
