TORONTO — Adam
Simmons of Exeter was
presented the Gift of
Belonging award at the
Reach for the Rainbow
(RFTR) Crystal Ball
fundraiser Nov. 10 at the
Toronto Convention
Centre.
Over the last few
decades, RFTR has devel-
oped from a small dinner
and dance gathering that
raised $3,000, to a unique
event boasting an impres-
sive guest list, and the best
live and silent auction in
North America, generating
funds in excess of $1 mil-
lion.
In addition to providing
integrated recreation,
respite and outreach,
Reach for the Rainbow
supports integrated sum-
mer camp opportunities in
Ontario. RFTR works to
support and modify the
framework of established
camps to provide integrat-
ed opportunities for chil-
dren and young adults
with disabilities. Simmons
has been an active partici-
pant since 1995.
Each year one partici-
pant in the program is fea-
tured and Simmons was
chosen for the award this
year. Global TV provided a
video, "Adam's Story,"
which highlights the con-
tributions Simmons makes
in his involvement with
RFTR and YMCA Camp
Wanakita in Haliburton.
