Panthers open with win Weekly hockey leagues scores
EXETER - The South Huron
District High School Girls hockey
team played their first game of the
year against St. Anne's last week
and coach Heather Strano said the
team played well in a 6-1 win.
Although the Panthers were a lit-
tle scrambly according to Strano.
She added it is to be expected con-
sidering the Panthers have had only
one practice as a team.
The Panthers have six new play-
ers this year and Strano said they
look like they're going to be wel-
come additions to the team.
"The second and third periods
showed much promise and
improvement...there were some
very good things happening
throughout," said Strano.
Sam Regier played the first two
periods in net for the Panthers and
rookie Melissa Cronyn took over for
the third and played well getting her
feet wet, said Strano.
Scoring for the Panthers were
Carly Mercer with a hat trick and an
assist while Keri Reschke had a goal
and two assists.
Also scoring were Amanda
Vandenberk who added an assist
with Ashley Gallagher getting one
goal.
Other assists went to rookie Laura
Godkin, Staci Miller, rookie Ashley
Denomme, Brett Sararas and
Avalon Kerslake.
