"Future Team Canada" returns
TORONTO - The Wayne
Gretzky Foundation and the
Canadian Hockey Foundation,
along with Hockey Canada have
announced the return of the
"Future Team Canada" pro-
gram.
This program, now in its
fourth year, will reward and
recognize 13 minor hockey
teams in Canada for the amount
of heart they show rather than
the amount of games they win.
Minor hockey teams across
Canada are once again encour-
aged to submit their team roster
and, in 250 words or less, an
essay outlining their team's val-
ues, special characteristics,
community involvement and
dedication that could make
them a "Future Team Canada."
Complete program details can
be found by clicking here or on
the "Future Team Canada" icon
found on the Hockey Canada
web site at www.hockeycana-
da. ca
Deadline for submissions to
participate in the program is
Dec. 7.
By entering the "Future Team
Canada" program, teams can
become eligible to receive
equipment and financial sup-
port for their team.
"Minor hockey in Canada is all
about having fun, meeting new
friends and being physically
active. We were very pleased
with the response last year and
look forward to running this
program again that will result
in the distribution of equipment
and funding to another 13
deserving minor hockey teams
in Canada that personify team
dedication and positive values",
said Gretzky.
"This `Future Team Canada'
program continues to be an
excellent way to promote the
positive values of minor hockey,
with the emphasis on being
involved in hockey and more
importantly having fun playing
the game", said Bob Nicholson,
president of Hockey Canada.

Jets lose 9-6 for first loss
By Nina Van Iieshout
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
TAVISTOCK - The Lucan-
Ilderton Jets were finally
defeated Saturday night in
Tavistock, losing 9-6 to the
Royals.
"It was bound to happen,"
says Lucan-Ilderton Jets
general manager Rob
Andrews, adding, "We really
came out flat. That was the
big thing."
Andrews also says goalie
Dave Riddell wasn't having a
good night. Goalie Jamie
Wallace, the Jets' third
goalie was brought into the
game halfway through the
second period.
The Jets were down 5-1
after the first period, with
Jeff Cook scoring the lone
goal. The Jets were behind
7-4 after the second, with
Mark Landon, Todd Hunt
and Jason Davies scoring.
During the third Cook
scored his second goal, while
Corey Smith scored the last
Jets' goal of the night for a
final score of 9-6.
"We gave up six power
play goals, which really
hurt," says Andrews, adding,
"The whole night the guys
were off. We were flat. I'm
not making any excuses but
we were missing a couple of
key players too, but that
happens to everybody."
Andrews says the Royals
took advantage of the miss-
ing Jets players, explaining
that the Royals "played the
way they were supposed to
play."
The Jets are also "battling
some key injuries right
now," says Andrews,
explaining they have also
just lost Brady Kjeldgaard to
a three game suspension for
gross misconduct for traves-
ty of the game.
Another player, Alex
Butkus is also on an eight
game suspenion for a match
penality for the intent to
injure. Butkus is back on
the ice Nov. 24.
The Jets play Saturday
night at 7:30 p.m.against the
Exeter Mohawks.
The game will feature a
ceremony at the start of the
game, honouring former Jets
player Roy Davies who was
killed in a car accident earli-
er this year.
The Jets, along with some
former players will retire
Davies' sweater, giving it to
his parents.
