Capsule Comments
by Ernie Miatello
If you are pregnant, you shouldn't take any
medications until you check with your doctor and
pharmacist. Some medications can be harmful
to the fetus. Two chemicals you certainly
shouldn't take are tobacco and alcohol.
Vitamins are either water-soluble or fat soluble. Water soluble
vitamins include vitamins B and C. The fat-soluble type includes
vitamins A, D, E and can be taken once daily. Water soluble ones
like vitamin C should be taken in divided doses of two or three times
a day for best effect.
When pharmacists put the word "Sparingly" on a prescription
label for a cream or ointment, it means that slathering on a large
quantity will not work any better than using a small amount. Many
of these creams are quite potent and it doesn't require much to get
a positive result.
If you have a hoarse voice for more than a couple of weeks and
you aren't sick, check with your doctor. It could be caused by
smoking, excessive alcohol or overuse of your voice. It could also
be a sign of some other medical problem.
