Businesses meet
about future

TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — About 60 members of the Exeter
Business Improvement Area (BIA) attended a meeting
last week to hear how they can promote Exeter's busi-
ness core.
The meeting Oct. 30 at the South Huron Rec Centre,
called "Empowering Your Business," was presented by
the South Huron Development and Promotion
Committee and focused on economic development for
the area.
Coun. Cathy Seip, who organized the event along
with planning assistant Trista Russell, started the
evening by encouraging everyone to work together for
economic development. She said communication and
education are the keys in bringing different parts of
the community together to work towards economic
development.
Former South Huron chief administrative officer
Larry Brown, now chairperson of the Ausable Bayfield
Maitland Valley Drinking Water Source Protection
Committee, spoke from the perspective of a local gov-
ernment, explaining growth and development will pro-
ceed in an area if the area does its best to make it a
place in which people want to live.
In South Huron, for example, Brown said millions
have been spent on economic development in the last
several years in the form of investments into infra-
structure such as the new Lake Huron water pipeline
to Exeter and sewers in Crediton and Centralia.

is impossible, Brown said, adding that some of the
roadblocks for municipalities working on infrastruc-
ture is the fact that costs are escalating, grants are

Fill the food bag
EXETER — Times -Advocate readers have the chance
to help those in need this week by taking part in a local
food drive and filling the brown paper bag included in
this week's paper.
Readers are asked to fill the bags with non-perish-
able food items and take them to food drive bins in Tim
Hortons stores between Nov. 12-18. Donated food will
help replenish the Exeter Area Food Bank.
"At Tim Hortons, we believe that it is important to
give back to the communities where we live, work and
play," said Exeter Tim Hortons store owner Linda
Whaling. "Holding the food drive in November will help
stock area food banks in time for the busy holiday sea-
son."
The food drive was created by store owners to raise
awareness and donations for food banks in their local
communities.
The bag included in this week's T -A includes a list of
items that are needed.
IT WORKS.
