South Huron Junior Girls basketball
EXETER — The South Huron
District High School Junior Girls'
Basketball team had a tough day
Oct. 24 losing two close matches in
Clinton.
The Panthers' scoring touch
abandoned them in a 39-32 loss to
host CHSS and again in a 31-27
loss to St. Anne's.
Terri Stuckless again led all scor-
ers with 16 points in the two games
while Taelor Douglas added 10.
Gina Phouttharath and Danielle
Daters had ninepoints each while
Nicole Insley garnered five.
Alyssa Becker had four, while
Taylor Mattucci, Brooke Gielen and
Linette Melick rounded out the
scoring with two points each.
The Panthers were victims of a
dominating St. Mike's team Oct. 29
losing 48-24.
In spite of a spirited comeback in
the third quarter the Panthers
were beaten in every aspect of the
game except three-point shots.
Douglas had two three-point
shots to open the scoring for the
Panthers, part of the eight points
she scored to lead the South Huron.
Stuckless was frustrated by the
Warrrior's defence but still man-
aged to score seven points.
Jaemi Douglas added five points
including another three-point shot
while Gielen and Taylor Obre
added two points each.
Nicole Insley had an off day scor-
ing only one point to round out the
Panther's scoring.
This third loss in a row leaves the
Panthers in either sixth or seventh
place in Huron -Perth which will
gain them a place in the playoffs
where they hope to return to their
40+ points a game form.
High school runner — South Huron District High
School (SHDHS) Grade 12 student KatieAnderson,

years when she competes in Niagara Falls this weekend.

Senior basketball
KITCHENER — The
South Huron District High
School girls basketball
teams hosted Stratford
Central Oct. 17.
The junior girls roared
out to an 11-0 lead early
before the Rams knew
what hit them.
The Panthers continued
this strong play and led
27-20 at the half.
Some great team
defence kept Stratford off
their game but the visitors
soon found their scoring
touch.
Despite a great team
effort, the Panthers went
down to defeat 49-41.
The Panthers got strong
games by Alyssa Becker
and Danielle Daters on the
boards and great scoring
by Nicole Insley who had
13 points.
They also got an awe-
some effort from Teri
Stuckless who had 23
points.
In the senior game, the
Panthers similarly came
out flying and led after the
first quarter 7-6 with a
great defensive effort.
Unfortunately the Rams
found their touch and hit
seven threes from the arc,
and despite the Panthers
outscoring the Rams in the
second half, South Huron
came up short, losing the
hard fought contest, 44-
31.
Strong play by posts
Melissa Pertschy and
Mairead O'Rourke saw
them both scoring 10
points.
Julia Roberts and
Stephanie Dietrich added
six and five respectively.
The senior girls had a
successful weekend at the
Rockway Tournament in
Kitchener.
The first game saw the
Panthers come -from-
behind against a Centre
Dufferin team from
Shelburne, 49-45.
The game saw the
Panthers open the tourna-
ment with a season high
49 points.
Kacie Erb set the pace
with 12 points and
Melanie Smith was close
behind with 10.
Roberts helped with nine
of her own and O'Rourke
and Pertschy both had six
in the win.
The second game on
Saturday saw another
team effort net the
Panthers a second straight
win to finish first in their
pool.
Once again the Panthers
came -from -behind in a
hard fought game against
a determined Kincardine
team to win 38-37.
Roberts had the hot
hand in this one making
three from the arc for a
total of 15 points.
Smith had two threes of
her own, scoring 10 and
O'Rourke had a strong
game in the paint scoring
seven with many
rebounds.
In their semifinal game
against Westside from
Orangville, the Panthers
were both short benched
and beaten up with some
injuries.
O'Rourke had a strong
game pulling down many
rebounds and scoring a
season high 14 points.
The team put up a solid
fight, but couldn't match
the skill or scoring of their
opponent in this one.
The seniors girls played
in the Parkhill Invitational
on the weekend.
The Panther's first game
was against a strong
Petrolia team that outshot
South Huron in a one-
sided game on the score
sheet53-26.
In the next game, the
Panthers faced the home
team from North
Middlesex in a close game.
Some good defensive
play from the Panthers
and a good scoring touch
from Roberts, O'Rourke
and Pertschy helped the
Panthers prevail in a 38-
31 victory.
The win gave the
Panthers an opportunity to
play for the consolation
championship against
Medway.
After a slow start and
some hot shooting by
Medway, the Panthers
rebounded to a 23-20 half-
time score.
In the second half, tired
legs and some tenacious
defence by Medway,
resulted in a 46-33 loss for
the Panthers who were
down to just seven players
on the day.
