The Mohawk Minute
By: Todd McCann
EXETER MOHAWKS SR. "A"
HOCKEY CLUB
Well we have just fin-
ished our first month of
the season with a record
of four wins and two loss-
es, rounding out the
month with a 3-2 loss to
our Highway 4 north
rivals.
Not a bad start to the
season, considering that
(in my opinion) we play in
the toughest division in
the league.
Through the first month
we've already seen a full
scope of issues early in
the season; from early
season injuries, to incon-
sistent officiating, to great
goaltending and exciting
hockey, all this while get-
ting to know our "new"
digs, new coaches and
new teammates.
We have more exciting
events in store, with our
next one being our spon-
sor employee apprecia-
tion night Nov. 24 at 8:30
p.m.
We have had great sup-
port thus far and we will
continue to work hard to
bring you exciting and
competitive hockey.
A big thank you to all
those who came to watch
the game on Saturday
and helped us support
Breast Cancer
Awareness.
Also, thank you to Cheri
McDonald, her "team"
and all those who donat-
ed prizes for the "PINK"
table.
You all made our
Breast Cancer Awareness
night a huge success.
And lastly thank you to
Rita and Zoe Bilcke for
donating and selling the
Pink M&M's for our
draw.
Zoe, you did an awe-
some job.
As of press time the
totals are not in yet, but
the night was very suc-
cessful and the planning
is already starting for
next year Thanks again,
everyone.
Welcome to our newest
"fan"; Payton Olivia
Geoffrey, born Oct. 22.
Congratulations Sarah
and Jeremy and all the
best as you start this new
exciting chapter in your
life.
Don't forget to get your
name on a ballot for our
power play club. Ballots
are available at every
Mohawk home game.
For each power play
goal scored, a name will
be drawn and the winner
will receive an "ice cream
cake" that has been gen-
erously donated by our
local ice cream cake
headquarters.
Mohawk Fact: Did you
know that the Mohawks
were the Grand
Champions of the WOAA
in 1955-56.
Come out and see your
Exeter Mohawks and get
your "MOJO" running!
Mohawks edged 3-2
EXETER - Special team
goals were the difference
for the Exeter Mohawks
Saturday night at the
South Huron Rec Centre
as the Mohawks were
edged 3-2 by the visiting
Clinton Radars.
A shorthanded goal by
the Radars was the only
score of the first period
and Clinton made it 2-0
with a power play goal in
the second.
The visitors extended
their lead to 3-0 later in
the period before the
Mohawks came to life late
in the period.
Jarrett Jeffrey got the
Mohawks on the board
with two minutes left in
the period assisted by Jeff
Glavin and Scott Davies.
The Mohawks connected
again just a minute later
when James Lutz made it
3-2 assisted by Jeremy
Geoffrey and Davies.
But it was all the
Mohawks could get and a
scoreless third period gave
the win to the Radars as
they outshot the Mohawks
44-34.
Exeter has a rematch
with the Radars Friday in
Clinton at 8:30 p.m. before
hosting Tavistock
Saturday, also at 8:30 p.m.

Lucan-Ilderton remains undefeated
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
LUCAN - The Lucan-
Ilderton Jets remain unde-
feated and in first place in
the Senior 'A' league after
two more wins on the
weekend to improve their
record to 6-0-0.
The Jets stayed perfect
with a 4-3 win in Monkton
Friday night and an 11-0
pounding of the visiting
Wingham Bulls Saturday
night.
Friday night the Jets
were down 2-1 after one
period with Jason Davies
getting the lone goal for
the visitors.
The teams traded goals
in the second period with
Jeff Cook adding another
for a 3-2 Wildcats lead
going into the final period.
And two goals in the
third period, including one
from newcomer Kelly
Thomson and another
from Scott Campbell, gave
the Jets a 4-3 win.
Lucan-Ilderton general
manager Rob Andrews
said Jets goalie Dave
Riddell was outstanding
and probably the reason
for the win.

"The guys were flat,"
said Andrews. "If you have
games like that, it's nice to
have your goaltender pick
you up."
Against a shorthanded
Wingham team Saturday
night, the Jets took an
early 2-0 lead on goals
from Todd Hunt and
Brady Kjeldgaard and
never looked back on the
way to the 11-0 win.
Hunt and Thomson each
added two more goals in
the second and the Jets
continued to cruise in the
third as Thomson com-
pleted his trick.
Cook, Jason Wilson,
Mark Landon and Greg
Lalonde completed the
scoring for the Jets and
K.J. Robinson picked up
the shutout.
Andrews said Thomson,
who played with the
London Knights last sea -
season.
son, will be a good addi-
tion to the Jets if the team
can keep him.
"We're quite pleased
with the way things have
gone," said Andrews.
"We've got a lot of new
faces in the lineup."
The Jets host Clinton
Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and
Thedford visits Lucan
Sunday afternoon at 2:30
p.m.
