The Little Hospital That Does_
SH discusses study for
MacNaughton Dam
Continued from front page
of the pond. Besides removal of the dam, another
option could be to chemically spray the water to pre-
vent the growth of the duckweed. But Giberson said
doing that would cost money and have an effect on
the environment.
Coun. Pete Armstrong said a study done by council
a couple of years ago determined the green in the
water wasn't caused by lawn spraying. I -Ie agreed
the area is "a major eyesore," and said it should be
looked at.
He added since the canners stopped using the
water at the dam, the water is of no use and the
dam is simply cosmetic.
Coun. George Robertson said he has received a
number of complaints about the water at the dam.
He said the ABCA and the Department of Fisheries
and Oceans would be happy to see the dam taken
out and have the area revert to a river system.
Giberson said a number of discussions about the
dam have taken place, and the ABCA is supportive
of restoring the status of the pond to its natural
state. He added the conservation authority is inter-
ested in spearheading any project involving the dam.
Giberson said there are costs associated with keep-
ing the dam, as it could need upgrades eventually.
Council also wants to hear the opinions of resi-
dents about the future of the dam and will hold a
public meeting before any decisions are made. The
date for that meeting has not been set.
