White Ribbon Campaign Oct. 21
EXETER - The October meet-
ing of Precious Blood Catholic
Women's League was held
Tues., Oct. 9 following the 7
p.m. Mass. President Wendy
Meidinger opened the meeting
with the League prayer. Barb
Truchon led the spiritual seg-
ment, the evening prayer -
Common of the Blessed
Virgin Mary. There were
18 ladies present.
Terri Pearson dis-
cussed plans for the
annual Penny Sale to be
held Wed., Nov. 7 at 5
p.m. in Precious Blood
Church Hall. Volunteers and
donations were requested. A
proposal to sell quilt tickets at
Hansen's Independent Grocer
was made.
Barb Truchon informed the
ladies that from June 2008-
2009 is the year of St. Paul, the
2000th year of his birth.
Canada Post has a Christmas
stamp with the manger scene
which everyone was encour-
aged to request and use.
Right to Life memberships
will be collected Oct. 28 and
Nov. 4 before and after Mass.
There will be a Right to Life
Dinner at the Arden Park in
Stratford, Nov. 1 with guest
speaker Pat O'Brien. Joan
Angew has tickets.
The White Ribbon Campaign
Against Pornography will
wow, be held Oct. 21 where
everyone will be encour-
aged to wear a white
T ribbon to take a stand
against pornography.
Cecilia Mittelholtz
asked for volunteers to
help at the Rummage Sale, Oct.
18 and 19. She also reminded
everyone that we have a great
library of religious books and
movies at the church that can
be signed out. Aggie
Groenewegen will look after
getting a group of ladies to
clean the church kitchen. The
door prize was won by Wendy
Meidinger who also gave the
closing reading entitled,
"Women," by Ashley Rice.
Women's Institute meeting in Kirkton
KIRKTON — The Kirkton-Woodham Community
Centre was the venue Oct. 3 for the 93rd convention of
the London Area Women's Institutes.
President Anne Innes welcomed 158 women to a day
whose theme was `Shout, Sing and Celebrate Together,
the 110th anniversary of the founding of Women's
Institutes.'
Reports were presented by advocacy, ROSE, PRO,
Tweedsmuir, CHWO Auxiliary, Western Fair and the
treasurer.
Greetings were brought from host Perth South presi-
dent Susan Christie, visitors from the southwestern
area, Guelph area and Grey -Bruce area.
The afternoon FYI session was presented by "The
Wig Room" from Knox Church in Stratford. "The Wig
Room" is a free service to those hi need of a wig and/or
accessories due to cancer treatment.
Reports were given by the London Area voting dele-
gate Marlene Archer and provincial board directors
Barbara Anne Temple and Ilene Chesterman, who rec-
ognized the three top branches in Ontario in the friend-
ship challenge — all from London area, Motherwell,
Belgrave and Mt. Brydges. Regrets were received from
FWIO president Rosemary Moran.

The afternoon session ended with the election of offi-
cers. They are: president Anne Innes, vice president
Debbie Bauer, secretary Sheila Greason, treasurer
Margaret Ogar, PRO's Betty Archambault and Mabel
Jacklin, ROSE — Dianna Robinson and Doreen Marks,
Tweedsmuir — Mary Nicklas and Gladys Stock, voting
delegate Ruth Gourleg and alternate Eleanor Williams
The evening banquet was catered by the Kountry
Katerers, as was lunch. Piper Heather Schlotzhauer
ushered in the head table. Greetings were brought by
Perth County Warden Ron McKay.
The London Area "Marion Pardy" scholarship was
presented to Allison McMillan.
Retirement presentations were made to Mary
Veenstra, Janet Gibson, Marlene Archer, Carol Innes
and Rosemary Moran (absent).
Members were entertained by 'old tyme' music and
step dancing by John Coulthard. The band members
were Marjorie Habermehl, Arnold and Marg Delong,
Paul and Sheila McNaughton and Colleen Coulthard.
The London Area convention in 2008 will be hosted
by Elgin District.
