Pastor Elly Van Bergen welcomed everyone and gave the announcements about upcom- ing events. Mayor Bill Dowson was wished a Happy Birthday on Sunday. Birthday Wishes were also extended to Bill Taylor and Gerald Hayter on Oct. 10. Anniversary wishes go to Tom and Barb Consitt, Leanne and Mike Colclough and Arnold and Nora Keys. At commencement Friday night at the Clinton Central Huron Secondary School youth from our area graduated. Congrats to Stacey Consitt, Alysha Dowson, Cameron Laurie and Robyn Taylor on the Roster of High Achievers. Robyn Taylor was also an Ontario Scholar as well as receiving the Usborne and Hibbert Mutual Fire Insurance Company Adward. The Huron County Women's Institute Education Award was received by Stacey Consitt. Cameron Laurie received the Blyth Festival Theatre Award, the Goderich Township Farm Show Award as well as the Teachers -Festival Liason Council Scholarship. Congrats to all these students on their future endeavors. During pastor Elly's message on the "Gula Walk." Elly announced she would be doing the Gula Walk in Goderich on Oct. 20. This is a one day worldwide event focused on being a voice for peace in Northern Uganda, and also aims to deliver much needed funds to on the ground programs for education, rehabili- tation and youth support projects for a gener- ation of children left behind. A Tim Hortons extra large coffee cup which is worth $2.15 with the coffee in it is at the Varna Corner Store. Anyone wanting to pledge Elly $2.15 or any donation can do so there. Jim Kirton, clerk of the session read Pastor Elly Van Bergen's Wedding Banns for the second time. Happy Thanksgiving was wished to all. Coming Events Sun., Oct. 21 church will be in Goshen and Goshen Anniversary will be celebrated as well as Elly's last Sunday. Please bring sand- wiches and desserts for a social after church. Brucefield United Church are hosting their Annual Beef BBQ Supper on Sun., Oct. 21 by Cardiff Catering at $12 per adult and $6 per student (6-12 yrs). Take outs are available. Advance tickets only. Presbytery Fall Rally at St. Marys United Church with registration at 6:30 p.m. with a sing song at 7 p.m. The Guest speaker will be Elly Van Bergen. Contact Anna Keys, Geraldine Eckel or Carol Simons for car pooling. Mark your calendars for Oct. 24 which is the Goshen Fall Super at 5:30 and 6:30 sit- tings at $14 each. Advance tickets only. Elly Van Bergen's up coming wedding was celebrated with a community shower in her honour, Oct. 11 at the Varna Complex. Varna U.C.W. met last Thursday evening. Leader Deb Rathwell welcomed all and read the Ten Commandments of Good Living. She also thanked the committee in charge of pro- gram Sharon Chuter and Margaret Hayter. Supper Committee Shirley Hill there are two catering events coming up: the Seniors' Christmas dinner on Dec. 5 and Meggin Bartliffe Reid's Wedding dinner on Sept. 27, 2008. The upcoming U.C.W. fall rally is in St. Marys on Oct. 22. Thurs., Nov. 1 will be a planning / executive meeting. The Christmas meeting will be Nov. 29. Sharon Chuter read a Thanksgiving piece "Feast But Do Not Forget to Thank" She read ideas on what to do for other people. Margaret read "Ready on Thanksgiving" fol- lowed by Sharon with the scripture reading. Sharon also read a poem out of the book Patch Work Pieces "A Thankful Heart." Margaret Hayter introduced guest speaker Dorothy Dietrich. Dorothy and her husband went to Tanzania and Kenya as a work team. Dorothy told everyone how they got there. Their church last Christmas decreased their Christmas gifts and gave towards the project of building a church in Africa and ended with enough to build the church $5,000. Dorothy and her husband joined a work team and went over. Dorothy read from her journal of how she felt about her visit and recounted her story with us just like we were there with them. They had a wonderful trip and she showed us all the gifts they were given as well as what they bought. They had a wonderful time. Sharon thanked Dorothy for her time and Margaret closed the meeting followed by the benediction. THE NEWEST ADDITION TO YOUR AIR WAVES 104.9 FM POLICE BRIEFS Driver arrested in parking lot EXETER — Huron OPP officers in South Huron were alerted to a pos- sible impaired driver at the McDonalds in Exeter. On Oct. 6 officers found a 23 -year-old male sitting in his car in the parking lot of the restaurant with the keys in the ignition. The male had been drinking and failed the roadside Alco test. He was arrested and taken to the Exeter Detachment where he provided two more breath samples and was found to be over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol. He faces one criminal charge of care and control with Over 80 milligrams of alco- hol. Urinating at the library LUCAN — On Oct. 6, culprits urinated in the library drop-off box at the Lucan Library.
