Playing on a field that was in rough shape, both teams had difficul- ty maintaining control of the ball. Exeter had the best chance of the first half when the St. Thomas keeper fumbled a cor- ner kick and the ball went to Tim Hundey in close. Hundey however, was unable to pull the trig- ger. Pete McAllister and Shawn McFalls both had chances as well later in the half, but were denied. Immediately following the kickoff in the second half, Exeter moved the ball upfield to Corey Firth. Firth sped in from the left wing and blasted a shot which narrowly missed the far post. St. Thomas applied more pressure in this half and Fury keeper Ryan Masse had to be sharp on a couple of occasions to keep the home team at zero. The game ended with both teams having played the final few minutes in near dark- ness. The Fury ended the season with seven wins, six losses and five ties, good for a tie for fifth place in their division. "We had a fun year with everyone playing hard and enjoying themselves. We are looking forward to building on this success in 2008," stated Fury spokesperson Shawn McFalls. On a side note, Craig Hern's playing days with the Fury came to an end Sunday after 12 years with the team. "Craig brought an energy and spirit to the Fury that will be impos- sible to replace," team spokesman Jason McFalls stated. "His enthusiasm and all-out effort are what made him the ultimate teammate and the Fury are going to miss his presence." Panthers volleyball EXETER — The South Huron District High School senior boys volleyball team was in action Sept. 26 and started with three wins over Madill, as they rolled to 25-12, 25-22 and 25-10 wins. The Panthers got great passing and kills from Grant Masse but coach Scott Halpenny said the team needed to show more energy. The Panthers next took on St. Marys and wrapped 24-26 and 23-25 losses around a 25-12 win. Halpenny said the Panthers got outstanding kills from Kurt VanOsch and setting from Bryce Halpenny. He added the Panthers lacked consistency in their play and let two games slip away. r -------------- HAY'S AUTO [11:111: 1;1 I"I']►`II111['1 11►'[r OPEN MON. - SAT.
