Exeter volunteer drivers needed
EXETER — Volunteer drivers are
desperately needed in and around
Exeter to drive local cancer patients
to treatment.
"People turn to us when they
don't have any other way to get to
their cancer care appointments,"
explains Huron -Perth Canadian
Cancer Society manager Janis
Cunningham.
"We're committed to helping but
the reality is we must get more dri-
vers or we may not be able to."
Volunteer drivers help those with
cancer by driving them to and from
cancer care related appointments
in local areas including Exeter and
Stratford, and/or to the cancer cen-
tres in London or Kitchener.
Although up to each volunteer,
some also drive clients to appoint-
ments in Hamilton and Toronto.
"Usually, a driver will drive once a
week if there's a need," explains
Cunningham. "The service is free of
charge for those who use it but our
drivers are reimbursed at a per
kilometre rate by the Canadian
Cancer Society to help cover the
cost of the gas, oil and a portion of
the maintenance and tire wear on
the vehicle."
George Dobbs, a dedicated Exeter
driver says, "I started driving over
10 years ago and I'm still doing it.
You get as much out of it for your-
self as you give in helping cancer
patients."
Volunteer drivers must have a
smoke and scent -free car and
attend a driver
education session
before they begin
driving for the

Plan Number 9-2-208 FAMILY HOME BOASTS CURB APPEAL With its arched windows and ornamental shutters, combined with the decora ive brickwork on
its facade, this two-storey, two-bedroom family home boasts plenty of curb appeal. In keeping with the formal tone of the exterior, corner quoin punctuate the
brickwork, while the remainder of the facade is finished in horizontal siding. The entry way is marked by double pilasters that lead through a c vered porch to a
glass -paned door flanked by side -lights. The open-plan living/dining room is located at the front of the house, immediately opposite the spacio s foyer with its
handy bench and coat cupboard. The living -room window, overlooking the front garden, is fitted with an outdoor window box. A gas fireplace w II warm both this
room and the dining room, which also features a built-in buffet. Beyond the foyer, across from the U-shaped stairway to the second floor, a niche will provide the
ideal spot for displaying collectibles and plants. A tall arched window lights the stairway. The family room, nook and kitchen are all situated at the back of the
home. The kitchen is separated from the other rooms by a six -sided eating bar, placed on the diagonal to save space. A U-shaped counter configuration
promises efficiency. The nook and family room share a doorway to a large patio with steps leading down to the back garden. The nook enjoys a bayed out
window, while the family room boasts a second fireplace and a double -height ceiling. Tucked in between the staircase and the family room is a powder room, as
well as a large pantry that is equally accessible from the dining room and the kitchen. Upstairs, the master suite overlooks the front garden. The vaulted ceiling
adds a dash of elegance. Daylight will flood into the extra -large walk-in closet through a high
mullioned window. The ensuite includes a soaker tub as well as a shower stall, for a touch of spa -like
luxury. Separated from the ensuite by the laundry room is the second bedroom, which boasts its own
bathroom. A handy linen closet occupies space between the laundry room and second bathroom. This
design, especially suitable for a narrow lot, includes an unfinished basement. The home measures 25
