During the ABCA board of directors meeting last month, a motion was carried to replace the dona- tion boxes by encouraging people to send dona- tions to the ABCA, thus being eligible for receipts for income tax purposes. ABCA stewardship and conservation lands super- visor Kate Monk explained that during the funding crisis in the mid-1990s, the ABCA was forced to pass the cost of property management to its users. "User pay/donation boxes were installed at Thedford Conservation Area, Morrison Dam Conservation Area, Bannockburn Wildlife Area, Parkhill Conservation Area and the Parkhill Conservation Area boat launch," says Monk. "Staff quickly learned that these boxes and asso- ciated signage were targets of vandals," adds Monk. The ABCA then altered the boxes, making them more vandal -resistant. Monk explained that nowadays vandals use power tools, opening the boxes and stealing the donations. "Staff are also concerned the cash boxes are also attracting thieves and vandalism to the rest of the property," says Monk. In 2006, the ABCA collected $76 at Morrison Dam Conservation Area, $10 at Thedford Conservation Area, $10 at Bannockburn Conservation Area and $10 at Parkhill Conservation Area. POLICE BRIEF 911 call leads to arrest LAMBTON SHORES — Lambton OPP have arrested and charged a 60 -year-old Sarnia man with impaired driving and refusing to provide breath samples after a citizen called 911. It is alleged Sept. 20, a motorist trav- eling south on Highway 21 near Pinery Provincial Park called the OPP Communications Centre in London of a possible impaired driver. OPP were dispatched while the Communications Centre maintained contact with the cel- lular caller. An officer found the suspect's pick up still traveling south on Highway 21 at Kettle Point. The Mazda pick up was stopped and the driver spoken to. The man was taken for the purpose of breath tests as required by law, but he failed to comply with that demand. The man from Sarnia will appear in Sarnia Court Dec. 3.
