Great strides in Exeter for the "Walk for the Cure"
By Joan Beierling
VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA - "Special" would be the optimum word to
describe the Sunday service at Varna church on Sept.
30 as the congregation gathered for their anniversary
celebration. The special music offered by Shirley Hill
on the organ and Mildred McAsh on the piano, the
choir anthem and solos by Terri Louch and Wayne
Miner gave voice to God's gifts of musical talent.
There were special decorations of fall displays of
harvest bounty and afghans, quilts, throws and tapes-
tries of every size and varied hues of colour filled the
sanctuary.
Pastor Elly Van Bergen drew parallels between
afghans and the colours and stories of our church
family of God's people, enfolded in the warmth of
God's love.
Special too, were some announcements: upcoming
birthdays and wedding anniversary celebrations and
Pastor Elly's wedding banns were read by Jim Kirton,
clerk of the session. Jim also took part in the chil-
dren's story along with treasurer Willi Laurie, the les-
son being that numbers - people in the pews and
money in the offering plate are not the governing qual-
ities of a good church.
Pastor Elly spoke of Jesus' promise that where two
or three gather in his name, he is there among them.
Matthew 18:20.
At the close of worship a reminder that Sun., Oct. 7 is
the Celebration of World Wide Communion as well as
Thanksgiving.
Please join us in celebrating Elly Van Bergen's
upcoming wedding at a community shower held in her
honour Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Varna complex.
This is an invitation to the men also.
In lieu of gifts for this combined household a dona-
tion box and guest book will be available at the door.
For further information please call 233-3303 anytime
between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mon. to Sat.
The Stephenson Steps raised $695 for their "Walk for
the Cure". This walk was done in Exeter on Sun., Sept.
30. Six thousand dollars was raised in total by all
walking out in Exeter. Debbie Rathwell and Leisa
Stephenson thank their supporters for their pledges.
Weather was beautiful for a nice brisk walk.

A fair deal for
today's working families
• health tax rebate
• real support for farmers
• increased support for seniors in
long term care
• immediate $10 minimum wage
• better home care support
reduced tuition fees
shorter hospital waits
• stronger environmental protection
balanced budgets within current
government revenue
Dalton McGuinty's Liberals
gave themselves a huge pay in-
crease, but they broke promise
after promise to Ontario families.
This election, vote for a party and
a candidate you can count on.

I don't know what I want to do. Is university or college better? Or
should I just work for a while? There's nothing for me in Huron County
New jobs are invented every day. How am I supposed to know what
courses to take? 1 can't afford a farm and all that equipment but I'm
attracted to agricultural jobs. What are my options? I keep hearing that
the Internet makes work more global. How does that affect me? Life
long learning? What does it mean? If 1 have to borrow money for my
education how can 1 afford to pay it back and still have a life?
