"This is good," says Reymer. A letter from Hydro One sent to Reymer states, "The program will provide free in- home pick-up of refrigerators, freezers and room air conditioners for the residential cus- tomers of participating local electrical utilities across Canada." Reymer explained that this program should be beneficial for everyone involved, saying it will make things a lot easier for the municipal- ity and the members of the community. The letter went on to explain that, "All reusable materials from these units are being recycled and a bare minimum is sent to land- fill sites. Particular attention is also being paid Open house — Picture at left, Zion Lutheran Church in Dashwood con- gregation chairperson Earl Keller, congregation members Eleanor Rader, Julie Bowers, Kathy Keller and pastor John Trembulak were taking part in the church open house on Sunday along with 195 Lutheran churches across the country. Any of those items will be contained and destroyed in accordance with government standards and regulations. The Great Refrigerator Roundup program is managed by Ontario Power Authority (OPA), an agency with Ontario government. It is being promoted by Hydro One Networks and many other local electric utilities. Eligible appliances are refrigerators, freezers and room air conditioners that are operating. They must be a minimum of 10 years old and within specific size restrictions, according to the letter. Appointments can be arranged either online or by telephone. The program is scheduled to run until the end of the year, but the OPA expects it will be extended to 2008 and beyond. lawn lawn bowling Tues., Sept. 25 Marshall Dearing 2W26, Har Brintnell 2W21, Fran Mickle 2W21, Jim Chapman 1W14, Fran McCallum 1W14, Bob Caldwell 1W12, Marg Consitt 1W12, Marion Dearing 1W12, Marg Knight 1W11, Bob Russell 1W11, Ray Consitt 1W10 Thurs., Sept. 27 Fran Mickle 1W1T18, Ray Consitt 1W14, Marshall Dearing 1W14, Harold Knight 1W13, Lucy Sage 1W13, Marg Deichert 1W12, Marg Knight 1W12, Audrey MacGregor 1W12 Sat., Sept. 29 Marion Dearing 1W11, Marshall Dearing 1W11, Mary De Boer 1W11 Ontario's current energy plan is full of gas. Som thing doesn't smell right, Ontario is shutting down its coal plants and fast -tracking natural gas generation — a plan that will send energy bills skyrocketing. They say natural gas, intermittent renewables like wind power, and unpredictable conservation will meet our energy needs through 2ot4.. But with nuclear supply and new transmission lines hung up with lengthy approvals, it's the riskiest gambit. We can have affordable electricity prices, reliable service, environmental safeguards and abundant supply if we: i) finish retrofitting our coral stations with proven, readily available clean -coal technology; 2) co -fire biomass like they do in Europe; 2) expedite nuclear supply.
