In May, four members travelled to Beamsville to a goat symposium with one of our members Raina Vingerhoeds winning top show person and the four Katie and Becky Brady and Leah and Raina Vingerhoeds were the whiners in the Go for the Gold competition. As Zurich Fair is the Achievement Day for the club, everyone turned out for a busy day. While preparing a float for the fair an ewe and a lamb from the animal display bolted off towards the lagoon. The float was scrapped for a round -up of the escapees. With everyone's help, the pair were tackled and returned to the display. After that adventure, the 4-H ers changed to their white clothes and pro- ceeded under the eye of our judge Robert Stokes. In the conformation class, Leah Vingerhoeds had the best kid followed by Maggie Ainslie and Viktor Coletta. Raina Vingerhoeds got first place for her Boer goat, with Katie and Becky Brady in 2nd and 3rd. In showmanship, Raina won first followed by Katie, Maggie, Leah, Becky and Viktor. Goats being such agile creatures, we added a new class which included an obstacle course for which every member brought some contrap- tion. Speeding through the course was Katie with Maggie 2nd and Leah 3rd. In September, the club attended the Seaforth Fair with Kathy Steele as judge. In Conformation the yearling class was won by Katie and Becky was second. Raina had the best Boer goat and in the kid class, Leah was first followed by Maggie and Viktor. When all the goats competed for the best goat of the day, Leah's goat was the winner. In the showmanship class, everyone did a super job. Raina and Leah Vingerhoeds were in the first group, Katie Brady and Maggie Ainslie in the second group followed by Becky Brady and Viktor Coletta. Raina went on to compete for best show person of the day show- ing sheep, dairy and beef cattle and pigs and received the Reserve Champion Showperson award. Once again we had an obstacle course with two tries. The winners were as follows. Viktor, Katie and Raina 2nd attempt - Maggie, Viktor and Katie. Thank you again to the following people and organizations that donat- ed to help provide sup- port for the club. Shirley and Ian McAllister, Art and Jean Bennett both of Bayfield.
