President Wendy Meidinger opened the meeting with the League prayer. She thanked the ladies for all the good work they did this sum- mer when called upon to help out with funerals. Pat Puchniak led an opening song, We Are Sitting in the light of God. Barb Truchon led a prayer, We are the Light of the World" where everyone lit a candle to show our light is shining in this new year. Father Ray Lawhead also gave the ladies a special blessing to help them in their work this year. Denise Morgan read the minutes of the last meeting and Millie Ross gave the treasurer's report. Mary Pavkeje read the correspon- dence consisting of many thank-yous. Jacqueline Hansen intro- duced the guest speaker an Epicure consultant who showed the prod- ucts that could be used consisting of many spices to help people as they make healthy food choices. The ladies sampled the prod- ucts and were given infor- mation to consider. Barb Truchon and Denise Morgan attended the provin- cial convention in Windsor and gave a report. They also encouraged the ladies to join the Wednesday morning Bible study Reports needed by Sept. 26 By Mary Peterson CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT CENTRALIA - Sun., Sept. 16. Peter Gummow from Stratford was once again the guest speaker for Centralia and Zion West United Church ser- vices. There are many upcom- ing events for Centralia church. Choir resumes once again this week on Thursday from 7 until 8 p.m. New members are always welcome. On Sept. 23 all members and guests are invited to join the Zion West congre- gation for their anniver- sary service, with John McNeilly from Exeter as guest speaker. There will be no church at the Centralia building that morning. The official board will meet on Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Zion. All chairs of committees are asked to have their reports of activities and upcoming events ready for that meeting. Sept. 30 will be a Community of Local United Churches commu- nion service at Centralia United Church at 10 a.m. This service will also fea- ture lots of enjoyable Christian music. Come out and enjoy this special ser- vice. Thanksgiving will be celebrated on Oct. 7 at regular times at both churches, with Dave Williams as guest speak- er. On Oct. 14 at 11:30 a.m. the Centralia congrega- tion will hold their anniversary service with Dave Williams speaking. You are reminded to mark Nov. 18 on your cal- endar for the annual turkey dinner and silent auction at South Huron recreational centre. More details will follow in the upcoming weeks. The fall rally of the United Church Women will be held Mon., Oct. 22 at St. Mary's United Church. The Right To Life Chain for Life will take place in Stratford Sept. 30. Forty- five residents were served tea and goodies in June at the Villa. Pat Putchniak asked for help when she is entertaining the residents with her gift of music. We are to remember that Mass is said at the Villa the sec- ond Friday of every month at 2 p.m. Penny Sale tickets are to be returned to Joanne Steffens as soon as possible. The door prize was won by Lillian Mathers. Mary Van Rooy's group is in charge of the next meeting Oct. 9. The meeting was closed with prayer.
