Deputy mayor leaving Lucan

LUCAN BIDDULPH — After much
thought, Lucan Biddulph Deputy Mayor
Perry Caskanette has decided to move
to London with his family, but he will
finish his term as deputy mayor.
Caskanette, his wife Nicole and their
two sons Alex and Nick will pull up their
14 year roots in Lucan Nov. 1, moving
to London.
In a news release issued by
Caskanette at Lucan Biddulph council
Monday night, Caskanette states, "The
reasons are varied, and for the most
part of a personal nature," adding, "It is
with a certain amount of sadness that
we pull up our family roots to explore
the next chapter of our lives."
While sitting down with the T -A,
Caskanette said he thinks the move will
be a "positive change for the family,"
explaining they are deciding to down-
size their home.
"Our home (in Lucan) is beautiful, but
huge."
Caskanette says he is looking at
spending some more time travelling in
the near future, with less maintenance
of the house and yard.

in London, says liv-
ing in London will
allow him to be clos-
er to work as well as
more easily pursue a
position as vice-prin-
cipal of a high-
school in the future.
"London is a more
central location," says Caskanette.
Caskanette has bought a residence on
Alice Street in Lucan in order to contin-
ue serving the municipality as deputy
mayor.
"I am confident that I can continue to
bring ideas and energy to the council
table and represent the taxpayers effec-
tively and conscientiously," says
Caskanette, who has three years left as
deputy mayor.
"I have worked hard over these past
four years because I believe Lucan
Biddulph is worth the effort. I thank you
for your past and future support during
this transitional phase of my life."

Huron -Bruce
meeting set
HOLMESVILLE — With the Oct. 10 provincial elec-
tion getting closer, a Huron -Bruce "All Candidates
Meeting" will give voters a glimpse into the views
and policies of the local candidates and their par-
ties.
The Huron County Federation of Agriculture
(HCFA) is hosting the meeting Thurs., Sept. 27 at
the Goderich Township Hall in Holmesville at 8 p.m.
The candidates will answer an array of written
questions developed by a panel of HCFA directors
with input from the audience, as well as questions
directly from the audience members.
A statement from the HCFA says, "It is the respon-
sibility of everyone in the agricultural community to
ensure that the candidates understand the issues
facing Ontario farmers, and provide them with per-
tinent questions at the meeting."
Facing off in Huron -Bruce (in alphabetical order)
are Dave Joslin (Family Coalition Party), Paul Klopp
(NDP), incumbent Carol Mitchell (Liberal), Rob
Morley (Progressive Conservative), Victoria Serda
(Green Party) and Dennis Valenta (Independent).
Nominations closed Tuesday.

Preliminary hearing
for robbery suspects
EXETER — A preliminary hearing is scheduled
Nov. 23 for all five suspects connected to an armed
robbery at Four Seasons Jewellery Designers in
Exeter June 5.
Jeffrey Averill, 20, Steven Averill, 26 Robert
Cornish, 32, Jerrilee Julien, 26 and Melissa Facey,
23, will appear at the Goderich Court House at 10
a.m.
Jeffrey and Steven Averill face several charges in
connection with the robbery.
Cornish will answer to the charges of two counts
of robbery and wounding, one count of disguise
with intent, possession of a firearm while prohibit-
ed, failure to comply with undertaking or recog-
nizance, breaching a probation order, possession of
property obtained by crime under $5,000 and rob-
bery with firearm.
Facey will answer to the charges of two counts of
robbery and wounding and one count of robbery
with a firearm.
Julien answered to the charges of two counts of
robbery and wounding, one count of robbery with a
firearm, breaching a probation order and posses-
sion of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
