Water quality programs in Grand Bend Sept. 29
Water quality education — Programs focused on water quality education will be
hosted by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority in Grand Bend Sept. 29,

GRAND BEND — A water quality program for chil-
dren is being held Sept. 29 in Grand Bend while
adults are finding out about `Water Quality in Your
Own Backyard.'
The support of local funding partners has allowed
the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA)
to create a new children's program, `Become a
Water Quality Whiz.'
The children's program is part of the Grand Bend
Rotary Club's `Clean Water Now Initiative,' funded by
the Rotary Club of Grand Bend, the Grand Bend
Community Foundation and the Municipality of
Community plant auction

HENSALL - Come out and enjoy our first meal of the
fall at the Hensall Drop -In on Sept. 20 at the Hensall
United Church. Lunch will be served at 12 noon.
Following lunch, we will be hearing music by Marlene
Mathers. We hope you will all participate. Come on out
for the fellowship and great food. We welcome all local
individuals to this luncheon, held on the third Thursday
of each month.
The cost is $5 per person. If required, transportation
can be provided. To make reservations, contact Kay
Mock at 262-3231 or Faye Skinner at 235-0258 by
noon on Mon., Sept. 17.
There will be exercise classes at Hensall United
Church on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with
instructor Judy Dougall. Call Cheryl at 482-9264 for
more information.
At Carmel Presbyterian Church the opening hymn
was Praise to the Lord, the Almighty followed by the
call to Worship and the prayer of adoration and confes-
sion and assurance of pardon. The guest minister was
Jan Maclnnis, a diaconal minister. Jan's message was
"Molded by God". To illustrate her message Jan had
everyone create a small pot with modelling clay. We
listened to readings from Jeremiah and Philemon. The
offering was received by Al Hoggarth and Harry Moir
and dedicated. The closing hymn was Softly and
Tenderly. The service closed with benediction.
The Hensall and Community Horticultural Society will
be holding a plant auction with Erik Jacobson of
Parkway Gardens and Pirie Mitchell at Hensall United
Church on Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Everyone welcome.

The `Water Quality
in Your Own
Backyard' event for
property owners is

to 12:30 p.m. at the
Southcott Pines Park
Association
Clubhouse at 10246
Lakeview Avenue,
Grand Bend.
The event features
guest speakers from
the Ontario Ministry
of the Environment
(MOE), the
Municipality of
Lambton Shores, the
ABCA and the Huron
County Health Unit.
Topics include the Grand Bend Water Quality
Monitoring Station, Lake Huron Water Quality
Partnerships, Improving Water Quality Through
Septic System Maintenance and Creating a Healthier
Lake Huron, Old Ausable Channel and Ausable River
Watershed. The event is Lecture Five in the Old
Ausable Channel Lecture Series.
"The Grand Bend and area community has shown
leadership by supporting water quality protection
efforts that begin locally," says co-ordinator of the
Old Ausable Channel Long -Term Management Plan

Man assaults police
SOUTH HURON —A South Huron man was charged
with assaulting police after a vehicle stop on London
Road Aug. 30 or an improper helmet violation. The
48 -year-old male became confrontational with police
and assistance from the public was used pending the
arrival of additional officers. The male subject was
also charged with failing to wear a proper helmet and
failing to submit the vehicle for testing. He will appear
in Exeter Court Oct. 25th.
"The events on Sept. 29 provide chances to find
out more about water quality and opportunities to
improve our local resource from provincial, munici-
pal, Conservation Authority and health unit person-
nel," Killins adds.
After the seminar, interested landowners can take
an optional workshop on how to self -assess their
home's environmental activities using the new
Stewardship Guide for the Lake Huron Coastline.
Landowners are asked to register for this and the
other events Sept. 29.
