Pool season ends in Kirkton
KIRKTON — Another successful summer at
the Kirkton-Woodham Pool has come to a
close, with the final public swim Sept. 1.
The pool staff — Laura Switzer, Erin
Robinson, Mike Weersink, Danielle
Ondrejicka and Jace Dougall — provided
lessons to 175 eager swimmers throughout
the summer As well, 11 Bronze students
successfully completed their Medallion or
Cross studies.
This was an especially exciting and chal-
lenging year for the pool as major renova-
tions, required to enable swimming pro-
grams to continue, were completed in June.
The complete overhaul was necessary to
update the 30 -year-old facility, with
improvements ensuring effective and effi-
cient operation of the family favourite.
South Huron's Dave Atthill and crew, as
well as volunteer Dwayne Selves did an
excellent job of ensuring the renovations
were completed successfully and in a timely
manner.
The Kirkton-Woodham Pool Committee
promoted the completion of the renovations
with a Family Fun Night July 20. Over 140
community enthusiasts enjoyed a hotdog
supper and tour of the updated facility, while
some also enjoyed a dip in the pool.
Financial and in-kind service contributions
totalling almost $20,000 were raised from
community members for the pool renovation
project and the fun night barbecue.
The committee thanks all who support the
Kirkton-Woodham Pool: to the municipalities
of Perth South and South Huron for their
financial assistance and guidance, particu-
larly representatives Cathy Barker and Jo-
Anne Fields; to the businesses and individu-
als who supported the renovation project
and Family Fun Night financially or through
in-kind services; and to the families who
make use of the facility for lessons and
recreation all summer long.
Season ends —The summer of 2007 was an eventful one for the
Kirkton-Woodham Pool as major renovations brought the pool up to
date. (photo/submitted)
