The County of Huron started the annual `Appreciation and Recognition Day for Emergency Workers' in recognition of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. They want to show appreciation for the firefighters, police, ambulance and other emergency workers in the area. County of Huron Warden Deb Shewfelt said, "The daily actions and ongoing sacrifices of our local emergency workers to keep us safe are remarkable." The county has asked all local churches to participate by including recognition of the day in their service Sept. 9. "We are hoping the churches will take a few minutes with the congregation to recog- nize local members that serve and protect us. It's one small way of saying "thank you" to valuable emergency workers in our commu- nities." Letters of appreciation have also been sent to area emergency workers.
