MITCHELL — The Exeter Senior Rookie
Eagles reached the finals of the Western
Ontario Baseball Association Championship
tournament held Aug. 10-12 in Mitchell.
The tournament started well for the Eagles
Aug. 10 with a 19-8 victory over St. Marys.
On Saturday morning, their bats were still
booming in a 28-4 win over Centre
Wellington.
In their third game, the Eagles faced a tough
Listowel team, who came out on top in an
11-4 win.
Exeter's record put them into the finals, but
in the "double knock out" formula, Exeter had
to beat the undefeated Listowel team twice to
claim the championship banner.
In the first game, the Eagles came
on strong with a leadoff home run by
Jonathan Baker, and never let up.
All the players displayed great com-
petitive spirit despite the adverse
weather conditions, in a well played
game.
Exeter's victory meant that the two
teams would play again.
In the final game, Listowel jumped
out to an early 10-2 lead.
Although the boys fought back hard,
and at one point rallied to within two
runs, the Listowel team was able to
hang on fora 13-9 win.
Coach Dave Reid commented on the

"Our team has always been strong with
their bats, but this weekend, they showed
tremendous improvement in their defensive
ability."
Reid said he and his fellow coaches, Dwayne
Overholt, Brent Dawson, and Jeff Butler are
all proud of how well the boys played and how
hard they worked to get themselves into the
championship final.
There is still more baseball left for the boys,
who will be vying for the Ontario Baseball
Association Division "D" championship, to be
hosted by Exeter on Labour Day weekend.
