HURON PARK — The businesses in Huron
Park have joined together to incorporate their
own non-profit organization.
Members met Aug. 16 and decided to call
their group the Huron Park Industrial
Association (HPIA). While incorporation is still
in process, Exi-Plast Custom Moulding presi-
dent Frank Zawalsky and sales and market-
ing manager Marianne Benson will be acting
president and secretary, respectively.
Zawalsky told the Times -Advocate Monday
all businesses in the park will join the HPIA.
He said the focus of the group is to pursue
Huron Park issues such as infrastructure and
security, as well as promoting the businesses
in the park and hosting events both in Huron
Park and supporting non-profit organizations
throughout the county.
Zawalsky said Huron Park businesses origi-
nally banded together about four years ago
during negotiations with the province con-
cerning the businesses buying their Huron
Park property. He said that group "fell by the
wayside" when the province implemented a
"gag order" during negotiations.
With most businesses now having bought
their buildings and land in Huron Park,
Zawalsky said there has been a tremendous
change in attitude in the park.
"The atmosphere has really picked up," he
said, adding businesses are optimistic about
the future.
The new group will hold regular meetings
and members will eventually vote on positions
such as president, Zawalsky said.
POLICE BRIEFS
Shoplifter arrested
EXETER — On Aug. 18 a male party was caught
shoplifting at the Unusual Finds Dollar Discount Store
on Main Street in Exeter. The male was recognized
from a prior incident in July where he had been caught
on video surveillance eating product without paying. On
Aug.18 the male fled from the store owners after police
were called and was later found hiding at a residence in
Exeter. A 38 -year-old Central Huron man will attend
Goderich Provincial Court Aug. 20. He faces two counts
of theft under $5,000 and two counts of breaching rec-
ognizance.
OPP reminds boaters
HURON — Over the past few weeks, officers from the
Huron OPP have stopped a number of boaters and they
have not been able to surrender the vessel registration
certificate for their boat. The Canada Shipping Act
clearly states that a true copy of the vessel registration
must be carried on any boat that is powered by a motor
in excess of 10 horsepower or 7.5 kilowatts. Any boater
who fails to surrender this documentation can be
charged and face a fine of $305. Marine officers suggest
keeping the original in a safe and secure location at a
full time residence and to carry a photocopy with them
anytime they go out on their boat. The copy that they do
bring out with them should be laminated or can be
placed in a watertight zip lock style plastic bag, which
will keep it dry and in condition that is readable.
