A 50-50 prize was won this month by Audrey McRoberts. On July 3 we heard from Fred Knip on his adven- ture to Dufar. Lindsay Muller spoke on July 10 about her excursion to Ecuador. The Good News Four sang on July 17. On July 24 Glena Olcen spoke. The Swinging Seniors Band played and sang on July 31. Our upcoming enter- tainment will be the Christies, Audrey Haugh, Devon Martene, Amy Schwartzentruber and Tammy Antaya. Foot care appointments can be made by contacting 235-0258. The next appointment dates will be Sept. 4 and 18. For those who would like a nice home cooked meal and don't want to cook in this heat please give us a call at 235-0258 to reserve your spot for our dining meal. We would love to have you. If anyone in the communi- ty would like to borrow a book or puzzle for the summer come on over to the Lion's Youth Centre and help yourself. cooking with memories BY DEBBY WAGLER MOM'S BROWNIES I HAVE AN OLD RECIPE THAT I COPIED FROM MY MOM'S AMAZING RECIPE FILE WHEN I WAS BUT A TEEN. SHE CALLED IT BELLIS BROWNIES AND I AM SURE SHE GOT THE RECIPE FROM SOMEONE WITH THAT NAME BUT I HAVE RENAMED THEM AS HER BROWNIES BECAUSE THEY ARE AN EASY RECIPE MADE YEARS AGO RIGHT THROUGH TO NOW AND THEY DESERVE RECOGNIZING THE VALUE OF RECIPES HANDED DOWN THROUGH THE GENERATIONS. 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 7 tbsp cocoa powder mixed with I tbsp melted butter 1/2 cup flour Pinch of salt 1 cup walnuts I /2 tsp. vanilla Mix all ingredients together and spread in a greased 8 inch square pan. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Cook, ice if you like and cut into squares. You can throw some chocolate chips in the recipe for some chocolate surprise! Enjoy! The message was entitled, "Learning from a fool." The scripture readings were from Psalm 127, Luke 12 and Colossians 3. Helen Wyatt lit the Christ Candle. The Ministry of Music was by Shirley Mullenix. Next Sun., Aug. 12, Pastor Vollick and Granton -Wesley congre- gation will worship jointly with the Lucan United Church congregation in Lucan. The vacation bible school was held at Granton -Wesley United Church last week, July 30 to Aug. 3, each morning for children five years and up. The theme was GRANT° "water works." Leaders for the week were: Pastor Vollick, John and Terry Herbert and April Bryan. Crafts were led by Doreen McRobert; sports by Penny McRobert; and music by Cindy Bilyea. The kitchen staff were Isabel Mardlin, Cheryl Wright, Cathie Westman and Carly Westman. Junior leaders were: Kevin Bilyea, Max Westman, Greg Harlton, Stacey Harlton, David Gatt and Russell MacIntosh. Everyone in attendance had fun and more fun if soaking wet had anything to do with it. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton, church services are scheduled to resume next Sun., Aug. 12, at 9:15 a.m. N NEWS Further bail hearings for robbery suspects EXETER — Bail hearings for two of the five suspects con- nected to an armed robbery in Exeter June 5, attended video bail hearings yesterday (Tuesday) at 10 a.m. The outcome of the hearings for Jeffrey Averill, 20 and Robert Cornish, 32, was unknown as the T -A was going to print yesterday (Tuesday). Melissa Facey, 23, will attend her bail hearing Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. to set a date for a prelimi- nary hearing. Steven Averill, 26, and Jerrilee Julien, 26, were released and will attend bail hearings Nov. 23 to set a date for a preliminary hearing. The robbery was at Four Seasons Jewelry Designers on the Main Street of Exeter. Jeffrey and Steven Averill face several charges in connec- tion with the robbery. Cornish will answer to the charges of two counts of rob- bery and wounding, one count of disguise with intent, posses- sion of a firearm while prohib- ited, failure to comply with undertaking or recognizance, breaching a probation order, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and robbery with firearm. Facey will answer to the charges of two counts of rob- bery and wounding and one count of robbery with a firearm.
