POLICE BRIEF
Man saves child from drowning
LAMBTON SHORES — A seven-year-old Mississauga girl is fortunate to be alive after she
was pulled from the waters of Lake Huron July 28. A family gathering was taking place at
the Lake Huron shore in the area of Lake Road at Southcott Pines Subdivision. Ashlan Singh
entered the waters of Lake Huron alone and without close supervision. The water, which was
treacherous at the time caused the young girl to encounter difficulty and slip beneath the
surface, seventy -year-old Michael Barrett from Toronto, who was in the area at the time
rushed into the waist deep water and recovered the child's unconscious body. Singh was
brought to shore and CPR administered on her. She regained consciousness. Lambton EMS
responded to the scene a short time later and administered first aid to the child. Aside from
throwing up water from her encounter, she did not require further medical attention. She
was released to the care of her family. An official with Lambton EMS indicates that the child
would have drowned were it not for the quick action of Barrett.
