Sense of relief after Imeson arrested
By John Carter
RENFREW MERCURY
RENFREW — Relief swept the area July 31
as suspected murderer Jesse Norman
Imeson was captured near Portage -du -Fort,
Quebec, on the Ottawa River about an hour
upstream from the nation's capital.
It now appears the 22 -year-old suspect in
three southwestern Ontario murders, includ-
ing Bill and Helene Regier of Mount Carmel,
had been hiding in the area for at least a
week.
The first clue Imeson, subject of a Canada -
wide manhunt, had fled to the Upper Ottawa
Valley was the finding of a pickup truck
missing since at least July 23 from the home
of the Regiers, two of his alleged victims. A
Whitewater Region resident stumbled upon
the 2006 GMC pickup truck on a seldom -
used trail off the south end of the Kerr Line
near Chenaux about 7 p.m. July 30.
The discovery sparked a massive police
search of the area on both sides of the
Ottawa River. Heavily armed police teams
followed up several leads, making a sweep
up Highway 60 from Renfrew to Douglas
and going door-to-door in Portage du Fort.
Just over 24 hours after the truck was recov-
ered, police received a 911 call from
Portage -du -Fort area resident Dale Lewis,
who had encountered a suspicious person in
a neighbour's cottage on Benthley Lane.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police
Emergency Response Team (ERT) and
Surete du Quebec quickly descended on the
area and arrested Imeson about 8:50 p.m. in
the nearby woods without incident, despite
the fact he was carrying two firearms.
Imeson was held overnight in the
Campbell's Bay jail, and after being treated
for stomach illness at the Shawville Hospital,
Caught — Jesse Imeson was arrested in Eastern Ontario July 31 after a
after being suspected for three murders, including the slaying of Bill and Helene Regier of
the Mount Carmel area.Above, Imeson was flown out of the Arnprior airport to Windsor,
where he was formally charged with first-degree murder in the death of Windsor bar-
tender Carlos Rivera. He will be charged in Goderich Friday for the first-degree murders
of the Regiers. (photo/Jake Davies,Arnprior Chronicle -Guide)
massive manhunt
he was taken in shackles to the Arnprior
Municipal Airport for a flight to Windsor
shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday.
There he was formally charged with the
first-degree murder of Windsor bartender
Carlos Rivera. Imeson will be charged Friday
at 10 a.m. in. Goderich with two first-degree
murder charges in the shooting deaths of
Helene and Bill Regier whose funeral July 30
was attended by about 1,000 people at Our

Bluewater residents have their say on sewers
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
HENSALL — The long holiday weekend
didn't stop about 200 Bluewater residents
from packing the Hensall arena to express
their opinions about the proposed sewage
project involving Lambton Shores, South
Huron and possibly Bluewater.
While Lambton Shores and South Huron
have already said they want to go ahead
with the large-scale project, Bluewater
decided to have a public meeting Saturday
morning to hear its citizens' concerns.
Lambton Shores, the municipality spear-
heading the project, wants an answer from
Bluewater by mid-August and Bluewater
Mayor Bill Dowson said Saturday he expects
council to deal with the issue at their next
meeting Aug. 13.
At Saturday's meeting Dillon Consulting
engineer Bill Boussey gave an overview of
the project. The master plan for the project,
he explained, was done in 2005. The project
starts south at Port Franks and the Pinery
Provincial Park as well as the areas north on
Highway 21 along the lakeshore potentially
to St. Joseph and east on Highway 83 to
Dashwood.
At issue now isn't whether or not sewers
will be installed in particular areas, but
whether or not Bluewater wants to buy into
a proposed $12 4 million mechanical sewage
treatment plant for Grand Bend that would
take future sewage from the Bluewater and
South Huron areas involved in the project.
Bluewater's share of the $12.4 million
treatment facility is $2.3 million (based on
sewage flow) with another $2.3 million for a
shared system with South Huron because
Bluewater would have to cross South Huron
to get its sewage to the proposed Grand
Bend treatment plant.
Once the plant is built, Boussey said the
three municipalities will decide which areas
to service. Once areas are chosen to have
sewers installed, Boussey said there will be
a public process. He said it will take three to
four years before construction on the plant
