Ingersoll edges Fury 2-1
EXETER — The Exeter
Fury traveled to Ingersoll on
Saturday afternoon trying to
put an end to their current
two -game losing streak.
Once again due to injuries
and work commitments, the
Fury relied on Masters play-
ers Tony VanMierlo, Justin
O'Rourke and Ron Reymer.
Exeter came out strong in
the first half and controlled
the play early.
Shawn McFalls had a cou-
ple of scoring opportunities,
but his shots were corralled
by the Ingersoll keeper.
The Fury suffered another
injury a short while later
when midfielder Tim
Hundey went down and did
not return to game action.
"He will be out indefinitely
with an upper -body injury,"
according to team
spokesperson Shawn
McFalls.
Exeter opened the scoring
when VanMierlo crossed the
ball from the left side which
the keeper couldn't handle,
putting the visitors up 1-0.
That lead was short-lived
however. Ingersoll tied the
score on a free kick from just
outside of the box with a
perfectly placed shot to the
top right corner.
Exeter's Stu Parsons
almost regained the lead for
the Fury, but his shot went
over the net from in close.
In the second half, Parsons
was given a pass from Pete
McAllister, but was foiled by
a diving stop.
Then, Exeter's Ryan Ralph,
who was filling in as goalie
for Ryan Masse, charged for
a ball and was called for an
illegal tackle, resulting in a
penalty shot for Ingersoll.
They made no mistake and
took the lead 2-1.
Exeter didn't give up
though and in the final 10
minutes, McAllister fired a
shot that hit the crossbar
and ricocheted straight
down and just past the line
to even the score.
"We just aren't getting the
breaks that we got at the
beginning of the year," stat-
ed McFalls.
"The penalty shot was a
poor call. Ralph clearly got
the ball before the player,
but the ref didn't see it that
way. We'll just have to
regroup and try to get back
in the win column next
game."
The Fury's next game is
Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. in Delhi.

Blue 3 versus Red 5
A competitive game
between the Red Rockets
and the Blue Machine with
the Blue Machine unable to
stop the rocket like plays.
Some real nice moves by the
Blue machines Colin and
Rachel setting up Jakob for a
goal. Good goal tending by
Andrew in net repelled the
many hammer like kicks
back out into the field. Lots
of smiles on both teams told
the coaches that they all had
a great game. Good work by
everyone!
