Danielle is the daughter of Kevin and Janet McKinnon in Zurich. Family members, relatives and friends from our area attended the happy occasion. Congratulations go out to Janet and Damion Willert of RR #3 Zurich on the arrival of their baby boy Ethan Michel born on July 16. Proud grandparents are Greg (Sam) and Agnes Willert of Grand -Bend for the fifth time. Members of the Bean Festival committee got together last Wednesday to build some pic- nic tables at the home of Dale and Shelley Miller. Babies are needed for the Zurich Fair "Babies on Parade" this coming Sat., July 28 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at the Complex. All babies are wel- come from 1 - 12 months old. No fee, no judging; lots of lovely door prizes donated from the various businesses in town. Elimination Draw and Dance There are still some Elimination Draw tickets for Friday night's dance at the arena July 27 sponsored by the Lions Club and the Agricultural Society. Cost is $10 at Erb's and there is a chance to win several cash prizes or $1,000. The band Shiver's will be play- ing from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. This also includes a delicious lunch at night. Admission fee is $5 at the door without the chance on the draws. Everyone is most welcome! Once again our 15th Annual W.W.W. (Wild Women's Weekend) was held with moth- ers and daughters (17 in total this year) attending from vari- ous places: London, Dorchester, Toronto, Listowel, Georgia, Grand Bend, Arva and Lucan. The group had a lot of fun together going to the Play House to see "Mom's The Word"; then to Lucan to the home of Melissa Francis. The family of Dick and Barb Rau, Zurich (children, inlaws and grandchildren) spent last weekend in Kitchener camping at Bingeman Park. This was a get-together to celebrate Dick and Barb's 40th wedding anniversary on July 22. This was also their son Darren and Aimee Rau's anniversary. Best wishes for a speedy recovery goes out to Billy Hay from Hensall who is a patient in University Hospital due to a double heart by pass operation. Our sincere sympathy goes out to the family and relatives of the late Cliff Gingerich R R # 3, Zurich who passed away suddenly on Saturday. Volunteer helpers are needed to come out this weekend and work at various jobs during the Zurich Fair. No one will be turned away, just come out to the complex on Friday a.m. around 8:30 a.m. and talk to Marg Deichert or president Hilda Landsbergen. Volunteers are also needed again on Saturday after the parade to help out with various children's activities. See the poster around town for more informa- tion. VBS Vacation Bible School is being held this week in Dashwood at the Zion Lutheran Church for all the kids. Welcome to town Jen and Chad Patterson and family who moved into the former home of her parents Dale and Rose Erb on Main Street. Alicia Kikkert from Los Angelos is visiting with her mother, Ann at R R #2 Zurich along with family members and her grandmother at the rest home. A Hay family reunion was held at the home of Vicky and Gerard Ducharme on July 14 in Wyoming. Also celebrated was the 50th birthday of Shirley Hay Janke of Exeter and a 25th birthday for Sara Ducharme July 18. Some members from St. Peter's Lutheran Church recently enjoyed going camping at Family Paradise in the Seaforth area (Walton) in July. Mike and Vicki Ducharme and some friends spent a few days this past week camping at Family Paradise Park near Sarnia. Louis and Catherine Masse recently celebrated their 45th Anniversary with a party held at the home of their son Mike and Diane Masse R R #3 Zurich. The Foundation Committee for the arena have tickets for the Play House to see Legends in August as a fundraiser. For more information call Nancy Regier 236-4420 or Steve Haberer at 236-4905. Anyone wanting to go on a bus trip to stay in a lodge on the 1000 Islands from Sept. 10 - 14 are to call Gwen McKellar at 236-7209 for more info. This five days and four nights Senior summer special vacation is only $385 per person which includes a Boat Cruise and day trips. Huron County Plowing Match Tickets are now on sale for Queen of the Furrow BBQ Dinner and Awards night on Fri., Aug. 24 near Seaforth. This evening is hosted by Bob and Carol Leeming. Playground News The week of July 30 to Aug. 3: Animal day on the Monday and summer Olympic games on the Tuesday. Thurs., Aug. 2 is bowling. Friday is wet and wild day (wear bathing suits and bring towels). No playground on Mon., Aug. 6 due to holiday weekend. Tues., Aug. 7 - Slumber party, and Wed., Aug. 8 - Mucky, messy madness. Raising funds St. Peter's Youth Group are having a fundraising event at the Blyth Festival on Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. The play is `Reverend Jonah' by Paul Ciufo who will also attend. To order tickets call the box office 1-877-862- 5984 and quote "St. Peter's Youth" and $5 will be donated towards their convention in Whitehorse, Yukon. St. Boniface Parish is still col- lecting any empty pop cans you don't want as a fundraiser for their building fund - drop them off anytime at the homes of Doug DeBus (Zurich), John Jacobs (Hensall) or Mike Miller (St. Joseph). Hope to see you at the Zurich Fair this weekend! The parade starts at noon on Sat., July 27 with theme "Down On The Farm" and there will be lots for everyone to do. Kirkton celebration Visit neighbouring churches this summer By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA - Many ladies from the Varna Goshen community attended the bridal shower in honour of Erin Keys upcoming marriage. Maryanne Turner welcomed everyone and Nora Keys read a reading on marriage. The Goshen ladies then had a skit and provided everyone with the best medi- cine "laughter". Marj Hayter acting as Edith Bunker and Marg Hayter acting as Archie Bunker, you two certainly play your part well and are so funny. Following the skit Peggy Keys read "The Creed to Love" by Maryanne Turner both friend and bridesmaid for Erin read the address which was very well done and well read! Congrats to Erin and her fiance Pauncho Melo of Mexico on their marriage both in Mexico and in Goshen. Church Service was in Goshen on Sunday with pastor Elly Van Bergen with the call to worship. Wedding Anniversary wishes were extended to Bruce and Anna Keys on July 20 and Shirley and Bev Hill on July 22. Congrats to Mike, Leanne and Morgan Colclough on the arrival of their son and brother for Morgan. Proud grandparents are Steve and Linda Keys and great grandparents are Arnold and Nora Keys. Next Sun., July 29 the service will be in the Varna complex with a picnic lunch to follow. Please bring your lawnchair, your favourite dish, plates and cutlery. No services for the month of August There will be no services in Varna Goshen for the month of August. It is your time to visit neighbouring churches. Bayfield United Church is at 11a.m. Brucefield Kippen is at Kippen at 10 a.m. Aug. 5 and Aug 12. It will be in Brucefield Aug 19 and 26. Vacation Bible School forms are still avail- able.
