CAMPAIGN MANAGER
Did you know that last year:
• there were 130,000 lab exams completed at South
Huron Hospital;
• there were over 11,000 visits to the Emergency
Department;
• the X-ray Department had over 16,000 exams;
• over 790 patients needed our inpatient services.
Did you know:
• Reducing delays and helping patient flow are key
reasons for the renovation and updating of the
Emergency Department.
Members of the Campaign Cabinet are commended
for taking up the challenge to raise the $1.6 million
needed for the state of the art technology and needed
renovations. The response to the campaign has been
awesome! We encourage you, your business, your
community group or club to welcome our Campaign
Team members when they ask for your support.
Please consider the importance of your campaign to
the health of those you love!

The role of technology at South Huron

LABORATORY MANAGER
Technology plays a huge role in the operations of
a medical laboratory. Sophisticated analyzers,
along with trained and competent staff provide a
variety of lab tests to assist physicians in providing
care for their patients.
Our lab techs have over 125 combined years of
experience and last year completed over 130,000
tests.
In the last two years, South Huron Hospital Lab
has purchased new analyzers which offer various
tests to the physicians. These analyzers allow tests
to be processed at a faster rate.
Also, with this new technology smaller volumes
are required which to the patient's delight means
less blood is drawn.
Another huge impact technology has had at our
Lab was January's implementation of the new hos-
pital -wide computer system. Doctors within the
Emergency Department can view results on the
computer as fast as the testing is completed. No
longer is a printed report necessary. This is not
only a faster process, but is environmentally
friendly. For patients transferred to London, physi-
cians at these hospitals are able to view lab results
as well as x-rays processed at South Huron
Hospital on the computer as we share the same
computerized patient record system.
This technology has brought South Huron
Ilospital an improved service to assist in patient
care and allows us to meet requirements of govern-
ing accreditation bodies.
You can visit the Lab staff from 7:30 to 11 a.m.,
Monday to Friday.
The lab is closed weekends and holidays.
South Huron Hospital Laboratory Technicians are
Susan Hoogenboom, Connie Thompson, Alison
Rammeloo, Sandra Herron, Rob Whitmore and Kim
Spearin.
