These interesting Ontario cities are situat- ed east of our neck of the woods at a distance of 343 and 275 kilome- tres respectively. The Belleville birds were released at 6:15 a.m. They were favoured by a high sky and a light northwest wind. Lucan's Brendan Cunningham clocked his first bird at 11:17:36 a.m. It managed to beat Norm Hardy's first bird by 22 seconds! In a pigeon race that's a photofinish. London's Jack Brennan clocked his first bird at 11:27:40a.m. and placed third on the race sheet. Al de Haan had a bird that took fourth while Tom Hardy and Walton's Paul Finch were the close-outs. The Cobourg birds were liberated one hour later at 7:15 a.m. under the same weather condi- tions. Again Brendan Cunningham managed to beat Norm Hardy - this time by 24 seconds. What's your secret, Brendan? Lucan's Tom Hardy was again engaged in conversation when he should have been watch- ing for birds. Fortunately his wife, winsome Wendy, clocked a bird that placed third. And after a shaky start, it was nice to see Bill Ennis junior clock a bird at 11:27:42 a.m. - good enough for fourth. Al de Haan got fifth and Fred Hally as well as Paul Finch were at the bottom of the leader - board. Well, you "winsome" and you lose some.
