Lucan Ladies Day
Ladies fundraiser — The first annual 'Take Five'
Ladies Day in Lucan was a success, with 280 in atten-
dance June 9, including red hatters from surrounding
areas. The fundraising event for the new museum pro-
ject in Lucan was organized by Sheila Hodgins and
from the comment cards received, Hodgins says it was
enjoyed by all. Above left, ventriloquist Randy Embro
sings to Bea Phillips of Denfield. Another highlight was
guest speaker Gary Ford originally from Exeter who
spoke on the "Female Brain from a Male's
Perspective." Gary will be coming back next year as
requested by many in the comment cards. (photo/sub-

Capsule Comments
by Ernie Miatello
If you are having problems sleeping, it's a good
idea to keep a sleep diary for a couple of weeks
before you see the doctor. You can list how long it
takes to fall asleep and how long you stay asleep.
Do you wake to go to the bathroom? What food or
drink did you have during the day? What mediations do you take and
when? A diary may help your doctor isolate the cause to help you to
sleep better.
It's important to keep our water intake sufficient especially during
warm weather. If you feel thirsty, you already could have lost about 2 pr
cent of your body weight in fluid. Make it a habit of regularly drinking
water throughout the day.
Our knee joints can often be painful. They bear a lot of pressure from
the weight of our body. Just by losing some of that weight can lessen
knee pain. In fact, by losing one pound of weight means a reduction of
four pounds of pressure on your knee joints.
Magnesium is a very important mineral for good heart health. Our
bodies need about 350mg per day and often, due to our diets
changing to more processed foods, we don't get enough. High
magnesium foods include whole grains, nuts, bananas, cheese, corn,
potatoes and dairy products. Paying attention more to the quality of
what we eat will enhance the health of our whole body.
