Goals: Game goals
scored by Kyle and

Coaches comments:
Great work ORANGE
team. Remember we
need to spread out and
pass the ball around.
Try to allow each player
to touch the ball at least
once each game.

Navy versus Green
Soccer
28 June
The Blue machine
faced a tough team
against the green team.
The score was tied near
the end with the Blue
coming out on top with
a 3-2 win. Colin did
some real fast footwork
and some nice passing
by Rachel and Hannah.
Great goalkeeping by
Andrew making it
tougher for the green
team to score. Excellent
teamwork Blue! The
green team made you
work hard which made
the treats at the end
taste even better. Keep
up the great work!

the winner of the American Quarter Horse Association Open Reigning and Working
Cow Horse champion in his first year of competition last year. (photo/Pat Bolen)
STAFFA — A lifetime
around horses is turning
into a championship
career for 29 -year-old
Staffa rider Darren Bilyea
who claimed the
American Quarter Horse
Association Open
Reining/Working Cow
Horse title.
In open reigning events,
the horse and rider are
judged on a series of pat-
terns and are required to
perform a number of
stops, spins, rollbacks,
lead changes and circles
at a lope.
Bilyea, who grew up
around Granton and
along with wife Jackie
and son Zack trains hors-
es on the farm of his par-
ents-in-law just outside
Staffa, was also the
Ontario Quarter Horse
Association champion.
Bilyea said open reign-
ing is a fast growing
sport that is one step
away from becoming an
Olympic event.
With last year being
Bilyea's first year as an
open rider, he said it was
a good year overall with
the title being a big
accomplishment.
Bilyea said he didn't
find out he was in the
running for the champi-
onship until August and
competed until December
before winning the title
by five points.
Bilyea said he won't be
showing in as many
events this year but is
planning on being at the
AGHA world show in
Oklahoma in November.
Fury remain unbeaten with 2-1 win
EXETER — The Exeter
Fury continued its
unbeaten streak June 27
at home by defeating St.
Columban 2-1 to take
over sole possession of
second place.
The Fury, who are now
one point behind first
place St. Mary's, notched
the winning goal midway
through the second half
and held on for the victo-
ry.
The Fury didn't start
the game in a strong
manner.
The visitors were gain-
ing excellent scoring
chances due to some
sloppy play by the Fury
defense.
Exeter was unable to
clear the ball out of its
end a few times but luck-
ily for them the St.
Columban strikers were
unable to finish off their
opportunities.
Unfortunately for the
Fury, they gave St.
Columban one too many
chances and this one
resulted in a goal from in
close to make the score
1-0.
Shortly after falling
behind, the Fury equal-
ized on a great play
between Pete McAllister
and Craig Docking.
McAllister lobbed the
ball over the heads of the
St. Columban defenders
allowing Docking to use
his speed to gain the
open space.
With the keeper charg-
ing out of his net Docking
jumped to head the ball
over the keeper and into
the open net to deadlock
the score at halftime.
The game became chip-
py later in the first half
after Fury player Roger
Mills was given a yellow
card on a phantom call as
he was the one that was
tackled hard on the play.
A few minutes later a
different St. Columban
player deliberately
kicked Mills behind the
play forcing Mills out of
the game until the second
half.
The second 45 minutes
were fairly evenly played
as most of the action was
in the middle of the field.
Docking seized the
chance to be the hero for
the Fury by fighting off
two defenders and firing
a rocket into the top cor-
ner on the far side of the
net to stun the St.
Columban squad and give
the Fury its first lead of
the night.
With fatigue and
cramping setting in on
the warm, muggy night,
Exeter's players kept
fighting off the St.
Columban attack right
until the very end.
One last dangerous cor-
ner kick was swatted
away by Fury keeper
Ryan Masse just before
the final whistle to seal
the win.
"Docking had an out-
standing game tonight
with the two goals and
playing some solid
defense for us also,"
commented team
spokesperson Jason
McFalls.
"Dave Poole and Mills
had good games for us
and logged some big min-
utes which gave the team
a boost," McFalls added.
The Fury are now unde-
feated after their first
seven games with a 5-0-2
record.
The next contest for the
Fury is a battle for first
place July 11 at 8:30 p.m.
in Exeter.
