Family knows importance
of emergency department
By Tim Hamather
A few years ago our family experienced a near -death tragedy. We know
first hand how critical it is to have a local hospital with emergency care.
Our families more than appreciate the ongoing care provided by our local
hospital and what it means to the future of this community. A thriving hos-
pital is the cornerstone of any small community. We strongly feel it is only
appropriate to support our local hospitals and doctors in a community in
which our businesses and families live. We give our heartfelt thanks to
South Huron Hospital.
Thinking of donating?
Are you thinking of donating to the hospital?
Do you have stocks which you have held for a long time? For example
Bell Canada (BCE); or possibly a life insurance stock which was issued to
you as a result of a company demutualization.
Why donate stocks instead of using your own cash?
You can maximize the benefit of donating the stocks by potentially avoid-
ing tax on capital gains, as opposed to cashing the stock.
If you cash the stock there may be capital gains to claim.
Capital gains tax on publicly listed stocks and securities are exempt
when you donate your shares rather than selling and donating the pro-
ceeds.
The following example shows how donating securities directly can pro-
duce higher net tax savings then selling the same securities and donating
the proceeds.
Remember you need to donate the stock, not the cash.
It is a simple process.
If you are interested in saving money on income tax and would like to
support the hospital, please contact:

RN, CLINICAL RESOURCE NURSE
Nursing at South Huron Hospital
is a rewarding experience! We have
approximately 40 nurses working at
our hospital; a combination of regis-
tered nurses and registered practi-
cal nurses. They are a group of well
educated, qualified individuals who
show enthusiasm and compassion
for their hospital and community.
Many patients from the area com-
ment on the fact that it is comfort-
ing to see a friendly face when they
come through our doors.
The nurses are a dedicated group
with many having served anywhere
from 10 to 35 years. That in itself
says a lot about our hospital.
Working in a rural setting, staff get
to know each other and it is like
working with family and friends,
celebrating the good times and
grieving the bad.
Our nurses have the opportunity
to think critically on their own and
become very confident, sometimes
not always seen in larger hospitals.
South Huron Hospital is always
looking for keen nurses to join our
great team.
