Jets edge Goderich
LUCAN — The
Lucan Ilderton Jets
built a 5-0 lead on
the Goderich Pirates
Saturday night in
Lucan, but had to
hang on for a 5-4
win.
Jets general man-
ager Rob Andrews
said the game was
0-0 after the first
period before Lucan
Ilderton broke it
open in the second
with four goals to
take a 5-1 lead.
Hitting the net for
the Jets were Mike
Robb, Mark Landon,
Brady Kjeldgaard
and Matt Munro
had a pair, includ-
ing the winner.
Andrews said he is
looking forward to
the weekend, when
the Jets will host
Clinton. The game
will take place at
the Ilderton Arena
to support the
Ilderton and area
minor sports orga-
nizations. The puck
will drop in Ilderton
at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday night.
Andrews said of
the game against
Goderich, "the frus-
trating part for the
coaches is watching
the guys let
up...once the swing
goes, it's pretty
hard to get that
momentum back.
And we hung on, it
was pretty ugly
near the end."
The Jets have a
record of 7-1-0 for
14 points, one back
of first place
Shelburne and one
ahead of Clinton.
WOSSAA field hockey
GODERICH— The
Panther field hock-
ey team came up
short in their
defence of the WOS-
SAA title in
Goderich recently.
In the Panthers
first game, they tied
Parkside from St.
Thomas.
The final score
was 0-0 and this
was a fair result as
neither team domi-
nated, nor took
their advantages.
In the second
game, the Panthers
suffered their heav-
iest defeat in a few
years as a strong
willed Medway
team defeated them
4-1.
The score was 3-0
midway through the
second half, when
South Huron clawed
one back as Staci
Miller tipped in a
Kelly Cronyn shot,
but Medway
reclaimed their
three -goal advan-
tage shortly after.
Medway won
WOSSAA and ended
up fourth at OFSAA.
Goderich qualified
for OFSAA, and
reached the quarter
finals, losing to
Medway.
4-3 overtime win for Irish
LUCAN — The Lucan
Irish needed an over-
time goal from Aaron
Whitcomb Nov. 9 in
Lucan to defeat West
Lorne 3-2, after giving
up the tying goal with
just 43 seconds left in
the game.
The win gives Lucan
a 6-6-2 record for 14
points, two back of
Mitchell and five back
of division leading
Exeter.
Thamesford leads
the conference with 21
points.
The Lakers opened
the scoring in the sec-
ond period before Bob
Martin tied it midway
through the second.
Whitcomb gave the
Irish the lead early in
the third period but
the Lakers struck back
with the tying goal late
in the game to send it
to overtime.
Picking up assists in
the win were Trevor
Liddle, Dan Crowley,
Jeff Silver and Trevor
Medeiros.
Lucan is in action
tonight (Wednesday) at
8:45 p.m. in their only
game of the week.
Novice action
EXETER — The first minute
of each period proved deadly
for the South Huron Novice
Local League team recently as
the Ilderton Novice team
scored five goals in the opening
minute of each period.
Owen Kuranji stood tall in
South Huron's in South Huron's
net for the rest of the periods.
Jacob Hrudka from Miller and
McDonald and Dwyer finally
put South Huron on the score-
board in the third period.
The Sabres were supported
with good control of the blue -
line by Denver Homuth and
with gritty efforts by Patrick
Medd, Brody Reid, Stanlake,
Hayden Dowman and Dillon
Haist.
South Huron does battle next
with Strathroy in their barn
Nov. 12.
