"Best Mom' contest winners
EXETER — Bakelaar Jewellers of Exeter
recently unveiled the winners of their third
annual `World's Best Mom Essay Contest',
with 350 students from area schools taking
part.
Precious Blood School Grade 2 student
Brandon Kuo's entry won the `Best' award. He
wrote of his mom Melody, "I have the best
mom because she quit her job when I was
born. I was very sick with eczema and some-
times I get infections from it. She's also the
best mom because she signs me up to play
baseball and in the winter she takes me swim-
ming and skating."
Claire Gordon, a Grade 4 student at Our
Lady of Mount Carmel, received the 'Most
Touching' award for her entry. She wrote that
her mom Joanne is the best because "she
helps me with work, helps me when I am
down and when I need help. My mom is also
fun.
"Me and my mom love to shop, we also love
to talk (a little too much). My mom absolutely
loves jewelry, she wears it all the time, and I
am proud of it. P.S.: I hope I win because my
dad is running out of money to buy mom jew-
elry, which she loves. Well, she loves me, too."
Exeter Public School Grade 1 student Sherry
Schneider's entry was deemed the `Funniest.'
She said her mom Shelly is the best mom
"because I love my mom and because my
mom took me to Walt Disney and Storybook
Gardens. My mom had a cat and she brought
the cat to Walt Disneyworld, and the sign said
'no cats allowed,' so my mom brought it in
anyway, but she got caught by the guard, so
she got thrown out."
The winners received I.D. bracelets and their
moms received Bakelaar gift certificates. All
entries received a small gift from the store.
