Seniors start strong
EXETER — The new Co-
op Senior baseball team
opened up the season with
a convincing win in
London May 16 over
Thorndale 11-0.
The game was called
after five innings due to
the Thames Valley Senior
League's mercy rule.
"What a great way to
start the season," said
manager Jeff Keller.
"We played very well. In
fact, we were in mid-sea-
son form. I was pleasantly
surprised with the way we
played. The first few
games of the season are
usually pretty sloppy".
Terry Hogg got the start
for Exeter, going three
innings and allowing just
one hit with one walk and
four strike -outs.
In fact, Hogg's worst
inning was the first, where
the lead-off batter got the
only hit of the night for
Thorndale.
Then after an error and
a walk, Hogg settled down
and retired the next three
batters with the bases
loaded for Thorndale.
"After that first inning,
Terry did not allow anoth-
er runner on base. IIe
seemed to have more con-
trol as the game went on."
Keller said.
Ricky Regier came in to
relieve I-Iogg in the fourth
inning, and took over
where Hogg left off. Regier
retired the next six bat-
ters, five of them strike-
outs.
"Rick had total control of
his pitches and his velocity
seemed to be right where
he left off from last year.
Thorndale couldn't touch
him."

good as well early in the
season, according to
Keller.
There was only one
error all night and plays
by Mike Agnew and Keller
late in the game kept the
shut -out in tact.
Exeter's bats compli-
mented the pitching
against Thorndale, belting
out 15 hits over five
innings The damage was
done in the second inning
however, where patient
bat appearances scored
four runs.
"The Thorndale pitcher
seemed to have a bit of a
control problem that we
took advantage of," said
Keller.
"Our guys were very
patient at the plate and
scored four runs on five
walks in the second
inning "
However, a pitching
change by Thorndale in
the third inning allowed
Exeter to start swinging
and 13 of the 15 hits
Exeter had came off of the
relief pitcher for
Thorndale.
Rookie sensation Dave
Russell led the offensive
attack for Exeter, going
three for four.
"Dave hit the ball very
well tonight, he hit it
hard," mentioned Keller.
Dave Gingerich, Hogg,
Jason Finkbeiner, and
Matt Iredale all had two
hits each.
Regier had the only dou-
ble of the night, scored
three times, and had a
stolen base.
Mark Laye and Matt
Johns rounded out the
offensive attack with a hit
each.
