EXETER — Come visit the Exeter Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY), where you can find tem- porary work quickly by registering with the Odd Job Squad. The Odd Job Squad links students seeking tem- porary summer employment with employers and homeowners seeking help. Students register with the Odd Job Squad at their SCCY, indicating their work experience and avail- ability. They are notified when a job is available. Examples of odd jobs include: lawn work, clerical duties, painting and flyer distrib- ution. Odd jobs can vary in length from a few hours to a few weeks. Students looking for more regu- lar work, including part-time and full-time opportunities, can check our Job Bank Website at job- bank.gc.ca. This site allows stu- dents to access detailed job post- ings for positions in their local area. Visit our office for informa- tion on how to use the Job Bank, or for more job search strategies. SCCYs open during the spring and summer months are part of the Government of Canada which, in addition to providing job post- ings, includes: • Resume building assistance; • Job search strategies; • Interview advice; • Information on health and safety in the work- place. All our services are free! To find out more, contact Katie at the Exeter SCCY, located within the Exeter Huron Employment Resource Centre (HERC) at 349 Main St. S., Exeter. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also reach Katie by calling (519) 235-1711. Need more info? Check out youth.gc.ca. KATIE EMMRICH SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OFFICER POLICE BRIEF Break and enter to Exeter residence EXETER — On May 16 thieves gained entry into a residence on Main Street in Exeter. Stolen from the resident was a silver Sony Handi camera, a blue Bell camera phone with a charger, a Citizen DVD player, 35 assorted DVD's and a Winchester collec- tor knife set. The estimated value of loss is $1,400. r Capsule Comments by Ernie Miatello Canada is the first country in the world to call for mandatory labeling of trans fats in food. This occurred in December 2005 so now consumers can determine how much of this bad fat is in pre-packaged food like baked goods, snack foods and some breads. However there is some good news about coffee that we often have with our trans -fat-containing baked goods. Although coffee does raise your blood pressure for a short time after a cup, it certainly doesn't cause any permanent hypertension. Morning sickness during early pregnancy can be quite a problem. There are safe prescription drugs that can control it but some women get relief from ginger capsules. These usually come in a 500mg strength and it is a safe way of controlling the nausea. Many doctors aren't refilling prescriptions by phone anymore. This is a good idea. It allows doctors more time for direct patient care and patients will have enough medication to last until their next visit. Ensure your prescription has enough refills on it. Huron Apothecary Ltd.
