Municipality of South Huron
Notice of Intention to Designate
THE ONTARIO HERITAGE ACT, R.S.0. 1990, CHAPTER 0.18, SECTION 29.(3)
Take notice that Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of South Huron
intend to designate certain exterior features of the residence at 73 Huron Street
West in the Exeter Ward of the Municipality of South Huron, in the County of
Huron, in the Province of Ontario to be of a cultural heritage value or interest.
Statement of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest:
Constructed in 1895 for W.J. Carling, the two-storey building is of unique late
Victorian period architecture and is representative of two other homes built for the
Carling family. It is one of the last two vintage Carling homes in Exeter and the
only one that is currently used as a private residence. The Carlings were one of
the most distinguished founding families in Southern Ontario and were prominent
businessmen significant to the early history of Exeter. W.J. Carling was the owner
of Carling's General Store in Exeter and the son of Isaac Carling who was the first
Reeve of the Village of Exeter (1873). Isaac was a brother of Sir John Carling and
Thomas H. Carling who operated one of Canada's largest brewing operations in
London, Ontario during the late 1800's.
Further information respecting the proposed designation is available from the
Clerk's office, at the address below, during regular office hours.
Any person may object to this proposed designation by serving on the Clerk of the
Municipality of South Huron, not later than June 16, 2006, a written Notice of
Objection setting out the reason for the objection and all relevant facts. If no
notice of objection is served by this date, council will proceed with the passing of
a designation by-law.
Dated this 17th day of May 2006
Sandra Strang, Clerk
Municipality of South Huron 322 Main St.,
P.O. Box 759 Exeter, Ontario NOM 1S6

PET ADOPTION BULLETIN
Huron OSPCA (Ontario Humane Society)
Hugo is a male, neutered, domestic shorthaired cat. He
is around 1 year old and just a lovely boy. He is
presently fostered in a home with two adults and
always wants to be with one or the other. If you relax in
a chair for a few moments, expect Hugo to jump right
up and be with you. He really enjoys being petted.
Hugo loves to play with balls of yarn, ping gong balls
and stuffed mice. He is a very powerful, muscular cat.
He is meticulous about cleaning himself and is very
tidy around the litter box. He certainly would be a
welcomed addition to any cat lover's home.
