HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Times Advocate, 2006-05-17, Page 2020 Exeter Times—Advocate •• Wednesday, May 17, 2006 Exeter crokinole tournament The Friday Mixed Dart League Awards Banquet was held Saturday night at the Exeter Legion.About 80 people attended the evening which included door prizes donated by Exeter and area businesses, dinner, dart award winners and dancing.There are about 100 players who are part of the Mixed Dart League, which has been running in the legion since 1962.Top left: On behalf of the Friday Night Mixed Dart League and the Friday Night Executive, Larry Bailey (left) presents a cheque for $1,000 to Exeter Legion treasurer Rick Smith.Top right:The League Champs Outsider's from back left are Joe Momersteeg and Dan Riley, and from front left KaIlie-Jo Morneau and Cheryl Riley. (photos/Nina Van Lieshout) On Saturday, 19 of the area's best crokinole players competed at a tour- nament hosted by Joe Fulop at South Huron District High School.The first place winner was Ray Kappes with 1 1 1 points, who won $200. Second place went to Brian Cook who had 105 points, third place was won by Fulop with 104 points, and Bruce Hartung was fourth with 97 points.Above left is Varna Crokinole Club President Joan Beierling. Beierling, the only female player at the tournament, is playing Brent Battler, who ranked in the top four at Preston this year. Below is Ab Leitch, left, who is the top player in Varna this year and was Recreation division winner at Tavistock this year. Leitch's opponent, Jeremy Welsch, was one of the youngest player's at the tournament. He played at Tavistock also last year, and told Fulop that he is "ready to take on the players of the group?'
