McFalls will be remembered as scoring the Cup winning goal in 2001 to bring the Fury the only outdoor championship in its his- tory. The career nine -goal scorer was the first player signed by the new men's team in 1992, coming over from the now defunct Exeter Centennials. The Fury made an immediate impression on the league under coach Martin DeBruyn, narrowly missing the playoffs on the last day of the season. McFalls guided the Fury through some lean years in the '90s. Lacking up and coming players from the minor system nearly led McFalls to fold the team after a dismal 1998 season, which saw the team gain only two wins, one of which was a forfeit. The team continued on, and by the time the '90s were over the Fury were on the rise again with the addition of some homegrown talent that had been playing out of town. Fury fans remember the 2001 season with the Fury taking on Ingersoll in the first Cup final in Fury history Oct. 1 when McFalls scored the eventual game winner in a 4-1 win. The 30 -year-old McFalls hoist- ed the trophy in the air knowing the Fury had made it to the pin- nacle after many difficult years. Injuries took their toll on McFalls in the following season but number 22 was around to see the Fury return to Second Division after a six year absence. McFalls stated he looks forward to the promising future of the team in the years to come. "I learned the game of soccer from the legendary coach Martin DeBruyn and was proud to be one of his disciples preaching the essence of the game to anyone that would listen. Martin, along with Herman Wulterkens taught me that the name of the game is fun...I just want to thank all of my teammates over the years because without you guys there never would have been an Exeter Fury," said McFalls.
