Habitat plans `Walk for Hope' Author visits
HENSALL — Habitat for
Humanity Huron County
(HFH HC) has been working
hard to secure the funds nec-
essary to build two more
houses in Huron County this
year, scheduled to be built in
Wingham and Hensall.
HFH HC is planning a
fundraising walkathon,
`Walk for Hope,' June 10 in
Goderich. The walk will start
in the morning at Knox
Presbyterian Church and
organizers hope $15,000 will
be raised at this event.
"This is only a portion of
what we will need if we are
to begin building these two
houses," explained HFH HC
chairperson Paul Dyck. "We
will need the support of peo-
ple throughout Huron County
if we are to be successful."
The walkathon has attract-
ed widespread attention and
the response has been rela-
tively positive to this point.
However, additional walkers
are needed if the fundraising
targets are to be reached.
Chuck Mallette, who is chair-
ing the group organizing the
event, states, "Things are
pretty good, but never so
good they can't be better. We
need more participants in
this event and we need more
people to pledge donations to
our walkers." A committee
made up of board members
of HFH HC is working hard
to generate interest in the
event and ensure it will be
successful.
Student involvement
Students from local high
schools in Exeter, Clinton,
Wingham and Goderich have
expressed interest in partici-
pating in the event.
Mallette says, "I hope we
can get as many students
from all grades involved as
possible, both high schools
and public schools. In fact,
we need people of all ages,
not only students, if we are
going to be successful."
Participation in the event
by high school students will
count towards community
service hours, a requirement
for graduation.
"The energy and enthusi-
asm that students bring is
always a welcome addition to
an event like this," says
Mallette.
HFH HC seeks to involve
people of all ages and from
all over Huron County to
come together for a cause
that is committed to provid-
ing affordable housing in our
communities.
Appeal for support
HFH HC is appealing to
people across Huron county
to support the `Walk for
Hope.' If you wish to partici-
pate, call 262-5222, or
receive a registration pack-
age by writing to: Habitat for
Humanity Huron County,
P.O. Box 68, Hensall, Ont.,
NOM 1X0. Once we receive
your request, a package of
information, including pledge
sheets, will be sent to each
participant. People across
Huron County are urged to
get involved as either a walk-
er or as someone who will
pledge money to a walker.
Scenic route planned
The walk starts at 9 a.m. at
Knox Presbyterian Church in
Goderich, with registration at
8 a.m. at the same location.
As an additional fundraiser,
T-shirts will be available for
sale at the event. Rest stops,
first aid and bottled water
will be available on the
route, that winds its way
through Goderich, down to
the beach and the board-
walk, and then works its way
back to Knox. The total dis-
tance of the walk will be
about 8 kilometres.

May 12 -Hansen's Lightning 2 vs Delko 4.
Goals: Nicole Willis (1), Meagan McVeeney
(1). Comments: Great hard work by Katelyn
Regier and Danielle Vanderlaan. Hansen's
Independent Lightning started the soccer
season off with a slow start as they fell
behind Delko 3-0 in the first half. The sec-
ond half however, the Lightning dominated
the play and scored two quick goals and just
missed on several
other chances.
Delko scored a late
goal for the 4-2 vic-
tory.
Participants at the Country Music Jamboree held recently at the Exeter Legion were

EXETER - Around 40 entertainers brought
their musical instruments and entertained a
full Legion Hall audience who enjoy country
music. The dance floor was always filled
with the assistance of good music that they
all enjoyed. 50/50 draws and meat draws in
addition proved popular. Shirley Campbell
and Marion Astle served a fine feast of roast
beef and all the trimmings. The committees
appreciate and thank all the volunteers and
Jim Swan, St Mary's who assisted as well in
making this event a real success. There will
be more jamborees coming up so please
watch for future announcements.
