Yard and bake sale in Centralia on Sat., May 27

CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT
CENTRALIA —On Sun., May 14, Rev.
Michelle Down led Sunday worship ser-
vices at Centralia and Zion West United
Churches. She lit the Christ Candle and
led the Call to Worship.
The opening hymn, played by organist
Marjorie Johns, was "Love Divine, All
Loves Excelling".
Following prayers, the choir sang
"How Great Thou Art". Rev. Michelle
thanked the choir and Marjorie for shar-
ing their gift of music.
Rev. Michelle invited the children to
the front of the church to participate in
the Children's Story Time. They dis-
cussed love and the family tree of the
church. Following the prayer, the chil-
dren went downstairs for Sunday
School.
Rev. Michelle read the Epistle Lesson
from Acts 10: 44-48 and the Gospel
Lesson from John 15:9-17. The choir
sang a second anthem, "Whispering
Hope".
Rev. Michelle's sermon was entitled
"Happy Mothers Day!" The
ladies of the congregation
were pleased to receive
flowers.
There were several announcements
about a variety of people and activities.
Rev. Michelle offered prayers for several
individuals who are facing health issues.
She asked that everyone keep in their
prayers Nicholas Andrew Tasko, the
new grandson for Madalene and Louis
Tasko who was born last week. She also
asked that everyone pray for the two
babies baptized at Zion West that morn-
ing. Congratulations to Steven and Jo -
Dee Hern on the special occasion of the
baptism of their daughter, Clara
Lorraine Hern. Congratulations also to
Christopher and Kathleen Hern on the
celebration of the baptism of their son,
Connor Larry William Hern.
Rev. Michelle pointed out the beautiful
patio pot and hanging bas-
kets that can be ordered by
contacting Mary Peterson
at 228-6992.Patio pots and hanging bas-
kets are grown and supplied by Huron
Ridge Acres in Zurich. Hanging baskets
include New Guinea Impatiens in red,
pink, or purple, and trailing Petunias in
red, pink, purple, and blue. The patio
pots include a variety of plants. The cost
for each is $16. Plants can still be pre -
ordered from Mary Peterson at 228-
6992 by Sun., May 14.
The Centralia United Church Women
are hosting their annual yard and bake
sale on Sat., May 27 from 8 a.m. to 12

Donations requested for Penny Sale

HENSALL — The Hensall
Yard Sale will be held on
May 27. The Hensall Spring
Fair will be held on June 10.
At Hensall United Church,
service began with welcome
and announcements and the
passing of the peace. Les
Hills was the minister. The
organist was Bill Gibson.
Dorothy Corbett was the
greeter. Pat Campbell
looked after the nursery.
The ushers were Eric and
Eleanor Mansfield. Service
closed with benediction and
choral amen.
The Friendship Circle
would like donations of new
or nearly new items for the
Penny Sale on May 27.
At Carmel Presbyterian
Church Tracy Whitson-Bahro
was the minister with Joyce
Pepper playing the organ.
The offering was received by
Al Hoggarth and Harry
Smith. Anniversary and
communion service will be
held on May 28 with Rev.
Vandermay officiating.

ed to donate "treasures" and baked
goods. Volunteers would be appreciated
for help on Friday at 1 p.m. and starting
Saturday morning at 7 a.m.
Conference Sunday will be held on
May 28. There will be no morning wor-
ship at Zion West or Centralia United
Churches. Everyone is invited to go to
Exeter United Church at 10:30 a.m. or to
Mitchell United Church at 2 p.m. for the
service of ordination and commission-
ing.
Young people are invited to the
Thames Road United Church "Fun-A-
Thon" on June 2 from 7 to 10 p.m.
There will be a campfire at 9 p.m. and
parents are welcome at that time.
