EXETER — "The first few days were a
big change from civilian life," is
how Exeter resident Paul
Denomme described his train-
ing at the Canadian Forces
Recruit School in Quebec,
which he graduated from
March 24.
After being home on leave for a few
days earlier in May, Denomme started his
Soldier Qualification course in New
Brunswick May 11, which he said is a
"The first

preparation course for his engineering
course which starts July 10.
Denomme said of the 62 people who
started the recruit course, 52 finished.
Although his drill instructors
"got in his face sometimes,"
Denomme said he was ready
for the training and didn't have
a problem with the physical
aspects of boot camp as well as
the large amount of book work
in the course.
He added he is looking forward to his
18 -week engineering course and despite
the large mount of media coverage

REGIONAL WRAP UP • REGIONAL
World's longest
hopscotch
GODERICH — Three Grade 3
students from Colborne School
have created what they think may
be the world's longest hopscotch
game, reported The Goderich
Signal Star.
Katie Talbot, Ainsley Homan and
Moira Stoecker have spent days
and many recesses outside build-
ing the game, which contains
1,147 squares.
The large hopscotch game takes
up a large portion of the school
parking lot, and even has rest
areas where the players can stop
for a break.
The three young players hope to
have set a world record, but there
is no mention of hopscotch in the
Guiness Book of World Records.
The girls plan to rebuild the
game after it rains, but plan on a
lot of hopping until then.
Hockey contest
WINGHAM — The Citizen states
that Wingham has made it through
to three stages of the Kraft
Hockeyville Contest, and are now
asking for family, friends and busi-
nesses to send letters explaining
why they feel Wingham deserves to
be Hockeyville.
The CBC taping of the winner is
in Hamilton on June 9, which is
when the top 10 communities will
be announced on air.
E-mails and letters can be sent
to editor@wingham com
recently, there was not much talk about
Canada's Afghanistan mission among the
recruits.
According to Denomme though, many of
the instructors have experience overseas,
which he said makes the training more
real.
After his qualification course, Denomme
said he will find out whether he has been
assigned to the Princess Patricia
Canadian Light Infantry or the Royal
Canadian Regiment.
