as trainers, equipment manager as
well as executive and booster club
members to help make the
Sherwoods one of the best on and off
ice Senior hockey teams.
The team needs trainers, an
equipment manager and executive
members as well as fresh ideas and
enthusiastic volunteers to fill these
poistions.
All interested parties can contact
Dickens at 262-2644 for further

Exeter Co-op Juniors ready for change
EXETER — It will be a new year
and a new direction for the Exeter
Junior Co-op baseball team this
year, according to Exeter Co-op
Junior manager Jeff Keller.
For one, it can't call itself the
`Juniors' as it will be comprised of
Junior and Senior aged players.
Every year the Juniors are made
up of eight or nine Junior aged
players and then a few midget aged
players.
However, with Exeter Minor
Baseball successfully putting
together a midget team for the first
year in many, the Juniors have
decided to make up the difference
by adding older players, not
younger.
"Minor ball president Dave Reid
and myself had a good discussion
about the viability of baseball in
Exeter. It is a great thing that we
have a midget team again. Having
a midget team will prove to be ben-
eficial for the Junior program in the
years to come," explained Keller.
In the meantime, Exeter will have,
for the first time, another Senior
team to play with the Express.
There are nine teams in the newly
formed Thames Valley Senior
League which is a separate league
than the one the Express play in.
"This will be great for both Doug
and I," says Keller.
"We don't have to compete
against each other and he can use
my players as he needs them, and
send his players to my team if he
wants them to get in some extra
playing time. It is really a win-win."
Some of the returning players
from last year include Terry Hogg,
Jonathan Brand, Ricky Regier, Dave
Gingerich, Mark Laye, Matt Johns,
Tim Meidinger and Shawn Morgan.
The list of `reserve players' is even
more impressive, according to
Keller.
These people include Jeff Keller,
Fred Gregus, John Gregus, Dave
Russell, Ryan Parker, Mike Seip,
Jason Finkbeiner, Mike Agnew, Jeff
Butler, Todd LaPorte, Dave Reid
and Jeff Pfaff.
In total, there are approximately
25 people on the roster of the new
Exeter Co-op/WK Seniors.
The new Exeter Co-op/WK Seniors
will play their home games
Thursday nights at 8:30 p.m.
Baseball in Exeter is definitely
thriving after a few years of stag-
nant growth, said Keller.
"It is really great to see Alvin
Willert Field so busy this year," said
Keller.
"There is another team on the
field. There is a 65 per cent
increase in numbers over last year.
"This is definitely a direct result of
the lights going up last year. That
was the best thing for baseball in
Exeter.
"The `older players' can now
spend time with their families
before going to the ball park. They
don't have to rush home after work
and get ready for a 6:15 p.m. game.
"Minor baseball registration up to
over 200 kids and over 40 people
playing on the senior teams, base-
ball in Exeter in really thriving.
Dave Reid and the executive of
Exeter Minor Baseball, Doug
Fairbairn and myself are all very
proud of this," said Keller.
