PACS is one of the hospital's major projects over the next couple of years and will involve new electronic x-ray and ultrasound equipment. With PACS, x-ray and ultrasound images can be viewed and read anywhere by radiologists — they do not have to be on site. Images can be sent to places like Stratford, London,Toronto and Owen Sound in a matter of moments. As a result, patients will benefit because South Huron will receive their reports back much quicker. If a patient needs to be transferred to another facility, he or she can be transferred knowing the doctor at the other end already has the x-ray to make a diagnosis before the patient's arrival.
